SPECIAL EDUCATION RESOURCE TEACHER
The Middle School Special Education Teacher will provide effective learning strategies in order for students to reach their maximum learning potential. They will be directly responsible to the building principal for all matters pertaining to the operation of the school plan, in-building administrative and personnel procedures, and general or district-wide policies. They will be indirectly responsible to the Curriculum Director for all matters pertaining to curriculum, instructional methods, and materials.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Teaching students with a variety of disabilities;
• Writes and implements individualized educational program of instruction for students;
• Teaching core subject areas in alignment with the new Illinois Learning Standards and IEPs;
• Advocating for students to mainstream into general education classrooms as appropriate;
• Utilizes a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved;
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students as needed;
• Implements reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in a fair and consistent manner;
• Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, establishes clear objectives for all learning activities, and communicates these objectives to students, staff, and parents;
• Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides necessary data;
• Works cooperatively and collaboratively with other school personnel in the identification, diagnosis, and remediation of individual students with specialized needs;
• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation;
• Provides leadership in problem-solving skills with paraprofessionals so students can be maintained within the least restrictive environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with Middle School children from diverse cultural/linguistic background
- Bilingual Spanish Desired
- Illinois Professional Educator License with LBSI endorsement required
