    JOB FUNCTION

    Provide effective learning strategies in order for students to reach their maximum learning potential; Instruct students by creating lesson plans, administering praise and constructive criticism, instructing students on subjects such as science, literature, and math; Create a well-rounded, comprehensive instructional program.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    This list is not all-inclusive and is only intended to illustrate the various responsibilities and duties performed.

    1. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to the learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students as needed; implement reasonable rules of classroom behaviour and procedure and maintain order in a fair and consistent manner.

    2. Observe and evaluate students' performance, behaviour, social development, and physical health.

    3. Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities; Assign and grade classwork and homework.

    4. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests; Prepare for students assigned, provide adaptations as necessary and show written evidence of preparation upon request.

    5. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.

    6. Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.

    7. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students; Confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved curricula.

    8. Strive to implement instruction and action with the District's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

    9. Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs; Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide necessary communication with parents on an as needed basis.

    10. Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations; Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.

    11. Guide and counsel students with adjustment and/or academic problems or special academic interests.

    12. Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study, following District approved curriculum guidelines or requirements of states and schools.

    13. Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.

    14. Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress.

    15. Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.

    16. Prepare for assigned classes, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors.

    17. Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of elementary school programs.

    18. Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage.

    19. Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling.

    20. Administer standardized ability and achievement tests, and interpret results to determine student strengths and areas of need.

    21. Supervise, evaluate, and plan assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers.

    22. Select, store, order, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.

    23. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence by attending conferences, workshops, and/or coursework.

    24. Attend meetings, training, and seminars as required.

    25. Continue professional development as provided by the District.

    26. Other duties as assigned by the Principal and Director.

    1. Strong knowledge of NWEA MAP Assessment.

    2. Ability to interpret and dissect data.

    3. Strong knowledge of the Illinois State Standards for math and reading.

    4. Ability to create lessons based on priority standards.

    5. Ability to utilize differentiated instructional strategies to promote higher level thinking and independent reasoning.

    6. Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor's degree in a job-related area, a valid Illinois Professional Educator License, and an Elementary Education Endorsement are required. Math Endorsement, Reading Endorsement, and English as Second Language Endorsement preferred. Any equivalent combination of training, education, or experience that meets the minimum requirements.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The general job required 30% sitting, 20% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
