The Nuestro Mundo Public Charter School, a K-8 dual language charter school in Providence, RI, is seeking a dynamic, visionary Principal/Head of School.The Principal/Head of School provides instructional leadership for the school and has general management and oversight responsibilities for the school. The Principal/Head of School directly supervises all staff; ensures 100% compliance with all educational and legal requirements at the federal, state and local levels; ensures plans and procedures are in place for success in student achievement; supports the Business Manager to carry out the annual operational budget and allocates school resources in a manner consistent with the budget approved by the Board; ensures effective operations within the school; and works closely with the Nuestro Mundo Board of Directors with respect to all school activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures adherence to all provisions of law and all school policies relating to the management of the school and other educational, social, and recreational activities, under the general direction of the Board
  • Collaborates with Board and school staff to support the school’s strategic plan and annual school improvement plan
  • Provides ongoing coaching, leadership and support to the staff to provide an environment that ensures all teachers are effective at teaching and all learning is aligned to the school’s mission and guiding principles
  • Works with the Program Director to provide direct supervision of and formal evaluations of staff
  • Works with the Program Director to understand and interpret student performance data to identify areas for continuous improvement, and share and support implementation of best practices
  • Ensures school staff effectively uses assessment data and results to establish school goals and initiatives
  • Builds and maintains partnerships with families and the community that enhance and support the accomplishment of the school’s mission, vision, and strategic goals Works with the Dean of Students to coordinate all student attendance and disciplinary functions
  • Works with the Dean of Students to build and maintain a safe and supportive school culture where every child is connected to the school community
  • Supports the Program Director to create and manage all student and staff schedules
  • Files all reports and requests as required by law, various governing bodies and Board policies
  • Establishes and maintains positive and productive relationships with other school districts, the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE), and the Providence Public School District (PPSD), and other Dual Language Education Schools
  • Assures effective communication between the Board and all school staff
  • Along with the Program Director, assists in the preparation of agendas and attachments for all Board meetings
  • Prepares and submits recommendations to the Board relative to all matters requiring Board action, placing before the Board such necessary and helpful facts, information, and reports as are needed to ensure the making of informed decisions
  • Attends all meetings of the Board
  • Along with the Program Director, assures effective execution of all Board decisions
