DESCRIPTION:

For the purpose of providing leadership, supervision, and organization of the district interscholastic athletic program. To provide direction, coordination of all aspects of the Winlock School District Athletic Program. Demonstrate strong personal and professional judgment, strong communication and collaboration skills with a variety of stakeholders, and must demonstrate exceptional levels of organization and follow through. The WSD Athletic Director will work in close partnership with the WHS/MS Principal.

SUPERVISES:

Supervises, evaluates, and directs the work of coaching staff and athletic personnel in Winlock School District according to district policy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary and without notice. The Athletic Director performs all or a combination of several of the following duties:
  • Assumes responsibility for the scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.
  • Supervises and directs the coaching staff to ensure that proper practice schedules are maintained and that WIAA rules are adhered to by all athletic teams.
  • Arranges of officials and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
  • Ensures the safety of athletic events.
  • Ensures the management of athletic events include set-up and clean-up.
  • Observes coaches and student-athletes in practice and game situations.
  • Monitors and supports effective communication from coaching staff to parents.
  • Arranges transportation for interscholastic athletic events.
  • Develops and implements appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities, participants, and observers.
  • Ensures adherence to medical and safety requirements.
  • Assists in the recruitment and hiring process for all WSD coaching positions and evaluates coaches.
  • Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified manner.
  • Ensures that proper forms are obtained and current for students.
  • Coordinate and provide on-site monitoring for seasonal eligibility clearance process and provide assurance that all students are cleared for participation.
  • Conduct mid-season grade checks, attendance checks, individual follow-up and provide assurance that all individuals are cleared for participation.
  • Coordinate with coaches, district/building administrators related to all athletic programs for student discipline issues and appeal processes.
  • Participates effectively at staff meetings with teachers, and other support staff using appropriate social skills, problem solving, and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Serves as District liaison with local and state authorities.
  • Ensures compliance with all rules and regulations of the Winlock School District, WIAA, and NFHS for all coaches and students, and report any violations to Winlock Schools administration.
  • Facilitates meetings with coaches and staff.
  • Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students.
  • Demonstrates strong facilitation and mediation skills in effectively resolving parent concerns.
  • Updates the athletic website and social media platforms.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree
  • Prior Varsity Head Coaching experience is strongly preferred.
  • Previous successful leadership experience.
  • Collaborative attitude with a desire to learn.
