Primary Purpose:
Provide English language development through the application of sheltered instruction strategies.
Accelerate English language proficiency for English Learners participating in the ESL program.
Provide English language arts and reading instruction using the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS).
Assist in coordination with the LPAC to provide instructional support for English Learners.
Qualifications (Experience/Education/Certification):
Bachelor's Degree
Valid Texas Teacher Certification for secondary grade levels (fifth grade through twelfth grade)
Valid Texas ESL Certification
Minimum of 2 years of effective teaching working with English Learners preferred

Major Responsibilities:
Student Management -
- Provide instruction to English Learners in a pull-out or an inclusionary classroom setting commensurate to language proficiency level
Develop and implement lesson plans, both individually and in collaboration with classroom teachers that are linguistically accommodated and differentiated according to language proficiency level
Communicate with teachers, administrators, and parents as needed
Monitor student achievement data and interpret, report and act on results
Maintain all necessary student records required by the ESL or Bilingual program
- Successfully implement professional development activities that accelerate English language proficiency of students
Use student data systematically and routinely to guide instructional decisions to meet the needs of English Learners
Collaborate with general education and special education teachers to ensure student's linguistic and instructional needs are being met
Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for English Learners
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
Be an advocate for and ensure that English Learners have an equitable educational opportunity
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Participate as a member of the campus Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) as required
Apply knowledge of state and district policies and procedures surrounding the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC)
Ability to analyze, interpret, and use student data to guide intervention and instruction
Monitor student progress through TELPAS and other formative and summative evaluation consistently and use results to plan linguistically appropriate instruction
Administer appropriate assessments to measure language proficiency according to state and district guidelines
Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
