DEFINITION

To fulfill responsibilities assigned by the principal and athletic director in the development and continuous operation of high school athletic programs to ensure that every student develops the enduring knowledge, skills and character to thrive in a changing world.

SUPERVISION

Receives direct supervision from the Athletic Director and Principal.
May supervise paid and volunteer coaches.


PRIMARY DUTIES - The following are examples of primary duties assigned to the Assistant Athletic Director. Other related primary duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Assist the Athletic Director in selecting, training and evaluating and paid and volunteer coaches.

  • Assist in scheduling all athletic contests, fields and facilities and ensure that the district's facilities and grounds crew are aware of schedules.

  • Schedule all game officials and other personnel needed for score keeping, gates and fee collection.

  • Attend athletic events whenever possible, working in conjunction with the athletic director, principal and assistant principal(s) to ensure coverage of all home events.

  • Ensure compliance with Colorado HIgh School Activities Association (CHSSA) guidelines. Ensure compliance with rules of participation.

  • Assist the Athletic Director in determining athletic eligibility and may serve as the liaison with coaches and teachers to address student discipline impacting athletic eligibility.

  • Work in conjunction with the middle schools athletic program to increase student participation in high school athletics.

  • Coordinate athletic budgets, working with coaches to ensure equity across all sports.

  • Plan and coordinate athletic awards programs.

  • Maintain records and ensure appropriate training, including first aid and concussion training for all coaching staff.

  • Arrange transportation for all athletic teams.

  • Maintain an active athletic program that promotes sportsmanship and welcomes competing teams and guests Coordinates details of visiting teams' needs.

  • Serve as a liaison between coaches and the athletic boosters clubs.

  • Maintain and update the athletic website, including athletic schedules, in conjunction with head coaches and Athletic Director.

  • Develop communications and/or correspondence (e.g., letters, tournament invites, tournament brackets and information, etc.) with the Athletic Director.

  • Attend CHSSA workshops and professional development opportunities that promote and increase knowledge of high school athletic programs.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the athletic director, assistant principal or principal.


  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge of:

    CHSSA guidelines

    Effective public speaking and presentation techniques

    Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation

    Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulation

    English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation

    Extensive knowledge of office and applicable software programs

    Principles of business and letter writing and basic report preparation

    Ability to:

    Oversee, direct and coordinate the work of staff, projects and teams

    Recruit, select, supervise, develop and evaluate staff

    Analyze situations and generate effective strategies

    Develop goals and implement plans, systems and procedures to achieve them

    Attend and supervise student and community activities (including evenings, weekends and holidays)

    Make presentations as required; create excitement for high school athletics

    Be reflective on performance and have a continuous improvement mindset

    Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

    Motivate staff and students to achieve high levels of engagement and performance

    EXPERIENCE & TRAINING GUIDELINES

    Experience:

    Requires past experience as a head coach or assistant coach of a high school athletic program for a period of not less than five (5) years.

    Training:

    Equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in education or a related field.

    License or Certificate:

    Possession of ability to obtain and maintain an appropriate valid Colorado driver's license.

    SALARY RANGE AND DAYS WORKED

    Yearly salary approximately$43,000, depending on qualified experience

    Days worked: 206 days/year (with paid personal time, paid vacation days, and paid time off for holidays and district non-work days such as during winter break and spring breaks)
