The Walker School, located in Needham is currently looking to hire Direct Care Counselors for their day school program. Under the direction of the Staff Supervisor, the DCC will act as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team in a residential-educational program for children with severe emotional and behavioral difficulties. The Direct Care Counselor will focus on social, recreational, and behavioral needs of children as well as ensure that the physical and emotional needs of children are being met daily. Successful candidates will have an Associate's degree or equivalent experience and a valid MA driver's license.

Essential Functions for this position include:
  • Work as a key member of a multidisciplinary team to further the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of children.
  • Implement social and recreational activities (e.g. recess, vacation programming) for children.
  • Participate in social and recreational activities (e.g. recess, vacation programming, special events) for children.
  • Provide a therapeutic milieu environment for children, maintaining a safe and healthy environment; and meeting the physical needs of children.
  • Implement treatment protocol established in children's treatment plans, IEPs, and individual support plans.
  • Participate on a wake-up team on the residence and ensure that students arrive to school on time.
  • Implement developmentally appropriate activities for res-ed students during the school vacation periods.
  • Directly supervise children in the school program and during residential wake-ups as assigned.
  • Properly attend to administrative functions of child care, concluding attending required meetings, completing assigned oral and written reports, and actively participating in supervision and professional development opportunities at Walker.
  • Apply Walker's model of childcare, including therapeutic crisis intervention methods, and physical restraint.
  • Support teachers and assistant teachers by assisting individual students with academics
  • Follow and implement all Walker policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Associate's degree or equivalent experience and a valid MA driver's license.
