Overview

The purpose of this job is to provide support to provide training and ongoing support to instruct and evaluate school personnel in how to safely administer crisis intervention techniques and behavior management strategies in the school setting. Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Training Certificate or willingness to be trained, Certified Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Trainer, Must be able to train HCDE in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention.

This position would assist in providing research and data based behavior support services for students with severe and significant challenging behaviors which utilize principles of applied behavior analysis in natural and least restrictive environments, consult with classroom and school staff to implement behavior programs in everyday routines, and demonstrate student progress through the monitoring and graphing of behavioral data. This may include, but is not limited to, providing general physical assistance to students with various disabilities, assisting teachers with classroom projects/activities, providing short term classroom coverage for teachers, monitoring/data collection in academic and/or non-academic regular curriculum participation, and other general duties which support the provision of special education services.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training as assigned under the direction of a licensed teacher, including training documentation and record keeping.
  • Provides technical assistance (modeling and facilitation) to building staff to create and maintain safe CPI policies and procedures.
  • Consults with classroom teacher and school staff to implement positive behavior intervention plans in everyday routines.
  • Provides behavioral support to promote positive behaviors and demonstrate student progress through the monitoring, graphing, and utilization of behavioral data.
  • Work collaboratively and in support of HCDE behavior analyst to provide direct behavior services to students.
  • Implements behavioral recommendations and programming on an ongoing basis while modeling and providing feedback to classroom staff.
  • Relates with students to provide structured social skill training based on behavioral intervention plan and IEP team recommendations.
  • Provides physical assistance, including but not limited to toileting, positioning, lifting, carrying, feeding, personal hygiene, or other assistance as determined by specific student needs, to any student with disabilities based on a student's Individual Education Program.
  • Monitor and graph behavioral data to facilitate ongoing assessment of programming and support the IEP team decision making process.
  • Assist in developing and implementing materials specific to behavior plans and IEP goals and objectives including but not limited to visual supports, environmental manipulations, and behavioral charts and graphs for displaying and interpreting information to the IEP team.
  • Attends staff meetings, parent meetings, IEP-Team meetings, or other meetings as required.
  • Follows established procedures for ensuring students are safe.
  • Responds appropriately to students' inappropriate behavior(s). Must be trained and maintain certification in non-violent positive behavioral interventions and support methods to respond to, diffuse, de-escalate, and control aggressive behavior utilizing physical restraint as appropriate.
  • Follows established procedures for ensuring assigned areas are safe.
  • Works collaboratively with supervisor, administrators, employees, students, and other stakeholders.
  • Works collaboratively with all stakeholders.
  • Attends work and arrives to work on time.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.
  • Uses technology to enter and access information related to essential job functions.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Education/Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required; basic technology skills required; general office/clerical experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Has knowledge and skills to support the PreK-12 general curriculum.
  • Three (3) years of experience in instructing school personnel in how to safely address inappropriate student behavior preferred.
  • Must be a certified Registered Behavior Technician through the Behavior Analyst Certified Board (BACB).
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention certification.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to students with disabilities. Or, any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license due to frequent travel to schools.
  • Experience/ training is required in providing behavior support and intervention to students with significantly challenging behaviors and in the areas of applied behavior analysis, including discrete trial instruction, prompt hierarchies, stimulus fading, differential reinforcement and extinction procedures, and the collection, monitoring, and graphing of behavioral data. This position requires travel to serve system-wide programs throughout Hamilton County. Mileage outside of travel to/from base school and short term placements is logged and reimbursed according to HCDE daily rate.

Compensation :

Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience.
