Description of Service Opportunity:
The Upper School Summer Learning Principal, with the support of the K-12 School Vacation Week/Summer Program Manager and in collaboration with District ELA and Math curriculum departments, will be responsible for overseeing a program to support selected students presently in Grades 5-7 to strengthen their learning during the four-week Summer Learning period (July 11 - August 5, 2022).
Prior to the program,
Participate in hiring of program teaching staff.
Coordinate orientation and classroom set up dates for summer teaching staff, including professional development on curriculum resources provided by the district math and ELA departments (July 6-8).
Develop student schedules and assign teachers with the support of the program planning team.
Lead communication with families, including the facilitation of family orientation prior to the start of the program in late June.
Participate in relevant planning meetings.
During the program, the Summer Principal will:
Maintain student rosters and emergency contact information. Be primary contact for families.
Ensure safe, orderly procedures for scholars arrival, meals and dismissal
Support staff in the implementation of the curriculum and support instructional strategies that stimulate learning and increase student engagement to meet the varying needs of scholars.
Be responsible for direct supervision of 12 teaching staff, including a weekly group/staff check in and 1:1 support as needed. Support staff in addressing day to day needs including support staff in addressing student behavioral issues and engagement.
Maintain all records, including daily student attendance and follow up as needed;
Support staff in submitting weekly payment vouchers.
Be able to substitute and or arrange coverage when a staff member is absent.

The Summer Program Principal is expected to work 5.5 hours each day (~7:30-1:00) between July 6 - August 5 and lead a weekly staff meeting from 1-2pm on Mondays. The Upper School Summer Learning Program Principal will have up to 20 hours of "pre-camp" work during non-school hours for additional program duties during the month of June . An additional 15 hours is allocated either for preparation or for collaborative planning time with district and program staff during the summer program.

Minimum Requirement/Job Qualifications:
The Upper School Summer Learning Program Site Principal must be committed to the stated mission and values of the Cambridge Public Schools; have the ability to teach students of diverse learning styles and grade levels; exhibit excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work with staff, parents and community members. Appropriate certification and highly qualified status under ESSA regulations necessary. Preference given to regularly appointed teacher(s) from the Cambridge Public School District.

Contract Dates:
July 1, 2022 through August 5, 2022

Contract Amount:
$41.00 per hour, Not to exceed $7,175.00
