QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Appropriate NYS School District Administrator certification

  • 5-7 years administrative experience

  • CSE, 504, and Special Education experience required

  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills and have a robust understanding of effective, results-driven student support models

  • Prior administrative experience in the field of student support services in a diverse, urban school district.

DUTIES:

REPRESENTATIVE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensures instructional and organizational coherence district-wide for special education programs and family/student support services required by schools and as defined by law.

  • Provides oversight and supervision in program management; to make appropriate recommendations for areas of compliance, innovation, and identified need.

  • Works with staff in program evaluation, design, interpretation of data, and strategic decision-making, drawing on SMART (specific, measurable, action-oriented, results-driven, and time-bound) goal strategies.

  • Provides leadership, oversight and support for special education.

  • Serves as a member of the superintendent's cabinet and management and support team.

  • Develops and integrates long-range district-wide student support plans and monitoring systems.

  • Identifies community partnerships and serves on committees related to family and student support services.

  • Works with direct reports, cabinet members, and all school communities with strategic planning, monitoring systems, budget development, and implementation plans for major initiatives.

  • Researches, writes, edits and reviews correspondences and prepares reports at the local, state, and federal levels, specific to special education/student support services, and areas of compliance.

  • Responds to questions from all stakeholders regarding student placement issues and related policies.

  • Collaborates and analyzes system-wide student data, and makes collaborative recommendations for adjustments in educational initiatives and budget support based on student results.

  • Ensures that all grants, financial reports, and state reporting systems are completed with fidelity.

  • Provides leadership in the development and review of policies, systems, and procedures to provide an effective and coordinated delivery of support services to all scholars.

  • Engages school leaders, staff members, and student support team members to maximize student attendance, minimize student suspensions/disciplinary infractions and ensure effective and efficient delivery of academic and non-academic support services.

  • Strategically and periodically evaluates district services and programs for students; identifies opportunities for greater effectiveness, efficiency and cost savings.

  • Systematizes and streamlines student support procedures including through technology integration.
  • Promotes transparency and codifies processes within the Office of Student Support Services
  • Builds a strong customer service culture within the Office of Student Support Services.
  • Creates and implements policies and systems that authentically engage parents and the community in the SMART goal planning process for their scholars.
  • Ensures a results-driven, academic return on investment for programs and initiatives.

  • Works collaboratively with transportation to ensure appropriate programming of students with disabilities.

  • Ensures compliance with meeting students with disabilities and American with disabilities accommodations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate.
