Director of Learning Resources (Upper School, grades 6-12)

 

San Diego Jewish Academy is looking for a full-time Director of Learning Resources to design, oversee, and implement learning supports for students enrolled in the upper school learning center.  Through a collaborative process with the Academic Deans and Head of the Upper School and by leading a team of skilled educators, the director also assists in the design of individual accommodation plans for students in the upper school who have up-to-date psychological educational testing on file with SDJA.support services for those students who have been identified as needing academic and English language acquisition support and, as needed, behavior support.  

 In addition to overseeing and managing a caseload of students receiving support services, this position oversees, and provides for, the delivery of appropriate services and interventions to students in both inclusive and pull-out settings to ensure  through collaboration, coordination, and excellent communication between teachers, support staff, parents and administration.

You will be kept busy with:

  • Overseeing all the implementation of all learning resources provided to upper school students enrolled in the learning center
  • Manage and oversee all aspects of day-to-day operations in the center
  • Lead, motivate, support and coach Learning Specialists in the center
  • Collaborating regularly with the upper school faculty to ensure all learning center students are receiving the most effective resources and support to in order for them to be success, independent learners
  • Observations and evaluations of students who are demonstrating academic difficulties and providing recommendations for solutions as a part of the upper school academic intervention process
  • Ensuring consistent communication with parents of learning center students to report progress and status of their child’s learning is accomplished by the learning center teacher
  • Periodically facilitating parent and faculty events to present current educational resources strategies and practices
  • Maintaining confidential student records of learning profiles, meeting notes and intervention documents
  • Representing the upper school in various school events including but not limited to back-to-school night, admissions events
  • Serving on the Maimonides Educational Leadership Team - attending leadership team meetings as well as grade level teacher team meetings when appropriate
  • Assisting the MUS Admissions committee as needed
  • Performing additional duties as assigned

You bring this to the table:

 

  • Experience leading a successful team and a proven track record in management and sales
  • Consummate professionalism and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills; attention to detail and accuracy
  • 5-7 years’ of teaching in special education or a learning resource center
  • BA required
  • Strongly preferred - Ph.D. or Masters in Learning Specialist or Education Therapy
  • Strongly preferred - Special Education Credential

A plus if you have:

  •  Experience working in an independent day school
  • Business management experience
  • Proven experience optimizing and automating processes using technology
