Reports To: Director of Federal Programs
Start Date: 7/25/2022

Primary Function: Mentor beginning teachers through observation, providing methods and procedures to ensure that classroom management and delivery of instruction are adequate for successful student learning; Supports and guides new teachers and leaders in the district.

Requirements:
  • Educational Level: Master's degree
  • Valid Ga. Teaching Certificate, minimum of five years successful teaching experience and leadership experience.
  • Proficiency Skills: Written and oral communication skills, ability to deal with multiple tasks, organizational skills, knowledge of community resources and the social services system, ability to operate office machinery, computer competence
Personal skills: Pleasant personality, cooperative attitude, physical skills and stamina to perform essential duties.

General:
  • Maintains a pattern of prompt and regular attendance. Number of annual absences to date:
  • Demonstrates professionalism by reporting to work and assigned duties on time.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of computer applications as applicable to job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates appropriate verbal and written communication skills.

  • Participates in professional organizations, workshops, and staff development activities and applies what is learned to the job; accepts new challenges in a professional manner.
  • Shows initiative and assumes responsibility for all aspects of job responsibilities; performs routine duties and tasks with little or no direct supervision.
  • Exhibits time on task and a flexible, cooperative, progressive and hard working attitude and style.
  • Monitors compliance with policies and laws concerning areas of responsibility.

  • New Teacher/Leader Mentor:
  • Prepares long and short-term goals for area of responsibility.
  • Communicates vision and mission to school personnel as appropriate.
  • Provides list and reports to Principal and HR Director about status of beginning teachers/leaders.
  • Provides an orientation program for new teachers in the beginning of the school year.
  • Observes and conducts follow-up conferences with teachers/principals to discuss job performance.
  • Completes a log of activities between the mentor and new teacher/leader, including observations and conferences.
  • Demonstrates lessons for new teachers.
  • Serves as a role model in all aspects of professionalism.
