This is a part-time, hourly paid position with an average of 20 hours per week. There will be weeks during the summer and holidays, when there may be reduced hours.


Position Title: Executive Director of the MCPS Education Foundation

Pay Grade:
15 Period of Employment: 12 months (Part-time)

Supervised by and/or Reports to: Executive Director of Student Achievement

General Responsibilities: Develops business partnerships, leads the planning for and manages all Foundation events and meetings. Leads planning for/promotes and manages student scholarships, teacher grants and programs. Writes grants and associated impact reports as required by major donors. Motivates and facilitates board member involvement increases public awareness of the Foundation.

Essential Duties:

  • Establishes procedures for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of funded programs, including reviewing requests for grant relevance and appropriateness to the Manassas City Public Schools Education Foundation (MCPSEF) initiatives.
  • Serves as a spokesperson and representative for the MCPSEF, educating and informing the community about the Foundation's role, goals, objectives, philosophy and accomplishments.
  • Creates, updates and monitors annual budget for Board of Director (BOD) approval and information.
  • Conducts ongoing communication and coordination with donor and MCPS staff to identify appropriate programs for donor funds. Maintains and updates documentation to ensure the funds are dispersed in a way that is in line with the donor's intentions.
  • Coordinates regularly with CTE Supervisor to facilitate programs and activities that impact or help carry out both the MCPSEF mission and the MCPS CTE program goals.
  • Obtains, maintains and promotes updated data, evidence and anecdotes that demonstrate the positive impact MCPSEF and its donors' funding have on MCPS students and staff.
  • Coordinates with donor representatives and MCPS staff to write effective grant applications required by major donors and prepares annual data-rich impact reports, also required by major donors.
  • Supports the Treasurer by keeping track of incoming and outgoing funds, approximately $120,000 per school year.
  • Ensures that funds are dispersed in alignment with the donor's intentions.
  • Attends local chamber and other government meetings, representing the Foundation and serves as first point of contact for the community to connect with the MCPSEF.
  • Maintains the MCPSEF web page and social media presence including advertising.
  • Prepares analytics reports to show effectiveness on regular basis for BOD.
  • Manages the planning, marketing, and execution of signature fundraising events and coordinates Board of Director assistance.
  • Manages the creation and distribution of Foundation documents such as thank you letters, sponsorship and grant requests, legal and financial documents, and general informational mailings, as needed.
  • Plans, organizes and facilitates one executive committee meeting each month and one Board of Directors meeting every month.
  • Assists the MCPSEF with the development of a strategic plan, structure, and by-laws.
  • Leads the MCPSEF in the development and monitoring of a strategic plan and its progress; tracking and facilitating BOD progress in duties of six standing committees; and adherence to bylaws and policies.
  • Serves as contact point for recommended potential new board members, including providing BOD information packet and maintains and updates BOD Manual.
  • Plans and implements half-day Annual BOD Retreat
  • Prepares, promotes, and manages student scholarship information and recipient selection.
  • Writes summaries of winners and promotes them on website, social media and in the press.

  • Designs and creates content for annual reports, brochures, PowerPoint presentations and other marketing materials.
  • Establish and maintain donor recruitment/management information database system.
  • Designs annual reports, brochures, PowerPoint presentations and other marketing materials.
  • Provides annual updates to the School Board.
  • Attends evening and weekend MCPSEF events to promote the Foundation.
  • Performs other duties as required.


Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proven leadership and management experience.
  • Outstanding written communication and presentation skills.
  • High energy, driven, persistent, and self-motivated.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, able to work independently.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with social media platforms__posting and analytics, website content editing, database management systems; Google drive and Google Docs.
  • Graphic design experience a plus.


Requisite Education and Experience:
  • Must possess a Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Fundraising, event planning, marketing, management and grant writing experience preferred


Physical Requirements:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physically capable of effectively using and operating various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
