Interim Middle School Director of Curriculum and Instruction

Position Purpose: Support SHS's mission through curriculum development, faculty hiring, faculty evaluation, and training in the middle school.
Essential Functions
  • Work with the faculty and admin team to sustain systems and structures that support and increase the effectiveness of the school's curriculum and programs
  • Regularly evaluate academic programs in all disciplines and develop strategies for implementing change to increase achievement
  • Administer new faculty orientation in collaboration with Director of New Faculty Programs to ensure new middle school teachers are acclimated and mentored
  • Supports and observes classroom teachers; provides instructional support to teachers in their classrooms through coaching, modeling, and mentoring, focusing on school initiatives and individual teacher development and growth and oversee and coordinate professional development and enrichment for faculty
  • Assist faculty in evaluating and selecting materials to meet student learning needs
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to support reflection on their teaching and to make adjustments with behavior interventions and differentiated instruction, ensuring that all students' needs are being met in the classroom
  • Provide leadership and coordination to ensure an aligned and articulated instruction across disciplines; plan and conduct faculty meetings that support effective teaching and learning
  • Administer the ERB test use data to inform teaching. Manage academic reporting, including report cards, narratives, and placement decisions
  • Promote interdisciplinary work
  • Guide the development of course outlines, scope and sequence, and instructional policies in each grade or discipline
  • Facilitate and oversee middle school faculty meetings; schedule and facilitate regular and timely textbook review meetings
Other Important Responsibilities
  • Assist in the faculty hiring process
  • Collaborate with the librarian to promote reading, author visits, and summer reading program
  • Responsible for website updates in regards to curriculum programs
  • Promote tech integration and evaluate tech resources
  • Chaperone occasional student trips and substitute teach as needed
Qualifications
  • MA in Education, Curriculum and Instruction or other related fields
  • At least five years of teaching at middle school level
  • A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria and professional behavior based on it
  • Fluency in reading, writing and speaking in English; additional skills in Spanish are highly valued and preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Excellent computer skills on both PC and Apple platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with lower/middle school students and with adult colleagues
  • Willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the SHS community and the LMS administrative team

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
  • Must comply with all state vaccination requirements and show proof of vaccination including but not limited to COVID-19 or proof of eligibility for exemption
  • Must be able to regularly move safely and comfortably over a 64 acre campus
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
  • Be able to regularly lift up to 10lbs and on occasion, safely lift up to 30 lbs
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled office environment and outside in weather ranging from cold and wet to very warm (80+ degrees)
  • Available and willing to attend and work on overnight trips, on occasion.
