    Summary

    The Media Relations Specialist is involved in all aspects of the development and implementation of Norwalk Public Schools based communication strategies. The Media Relations Specialist is responsible for promoting and protecting the company's reputation by developing and executing media and public relations strategies and plans for brand building/innovation, corporate promotions, internal communications, social media, and corporate communications/affairs initiatives through the use of various media outlets in collaboration with a communications team. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

    Job Responsibilities:
    • Job Responsibilities :

      · Lead in developing, and implementing annual external and internal communication plans including creating results measurement plan.

      · Manage day-to-day media relations/media requests for District including issues management.

      · Create a media crisis management plan for Norwalk Public Schools.

      · Collaborate with marketing and subject matter experts in a timely manner to determine appropriate media responses via various channels.

      · Develop written materials including press releases, Q&A, and media standby statements on announcements, social media posts, and corporate issues as required.

      · Build and foster relationships with key media contacts.

      · Identify opportunities to proactively amplify District related stories through social media outlets as appropriate.

      · Assist in the development and implementation of District PR programs to support image-building initiatives/innovation/corporate promotions.

      · Provide guidance and direction to partners and vendors and review all District PR materials to ensure communication is accurate, relevant, and consistent with Norwalk Public Schools brand and overall corporate messaging and positions.

      · Plan coordination and communication of messages/news to both internal and external audiences.

      · Evaluate the effectiveness of all internal and external media programs and communicate results of specific campaigns as well as annual program.

      · Develop and implement social media communications weekly, monthly and annual content calendar.

      · Execute social media plan and monitor channels ensuring alignment with communications messages.

      · Serve as senior writer and editor and provide communications content for Intranet.

      · Serve as liaison to IT.

      · Evaluate the effectiveness of internal communications and report results back to business.

      · Liaison and collaborate with employee groups and cross-functional teams as needed and help provide creative solutions to communication problems.

      · Lead internal communications resources to all departments.

      · Develop and manage internal/external corporate and local community events in support of the corporate giving strategy.

      · Serve as back-up to the Communications Director with crisis/ issues management.

      · Any other duties as assigned.

      Requirements :

      · Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.

      · 2-3 years' experience working in a Media Relations role or in Public Relations.

      · Management experience preferred.

      · Must possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with strong writing and editorial abilities.

      · Highly organized with the ability to multitask.

      · Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, internet, wire services, media monitoring software, and other public relations tools.

      · Demonstrated success with Social Media tools such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and others.

      · Must possess strong project management skills.

      · Must be able to meet tight deadlines and execute flawlessly on projects in a fast-paced, often pressured environment and see a project through to completion.

      · Must have the ability to be an influential communications consultant within the organization.
