JOB SUMMARY:

Provides kindergarten through high school general music instruction and 4-12 instrumental music instruction with responsibility for establishing music as a vital living experience in the life of each child.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree from a fully accredited college or university. Possession of, or eligibility for, a current Washington State Education credential with appropriate endorsements for subjects taught. Competency in music education, including instrumental music. Strong work ethic and desire to develop and grow professionally. Ability to work as part of a team.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Understands central concepts of curriculum, instruction and assessment within music education.
  • Guides students to enjoy, appreciate and interpret music in his/her daily life.
  • Encourages and assists the students to acquire skills in music through sequential instruction and experiences.
  • Encourages and promotes the coordination of music with other subject areas in the elementary and secondary curriculum.
  • Determines the materials to be used in instruction and plans the best methods for presenting them.
  • Leads the planning, preparing, and presenting programs for the schools.
  • Evaluates each student's performance in music.
  • Plans in-depth experiences for special groups or individuals based on student needs.
  • Maintains an accurate inventory of materials, equipment, and instruments.
  • Plans for the care, repair and ordering of materials, equipment and instruments.
  • Provides a positive, respectful learning environment that encourages students to grow, learn and demonstrate persistence.
  • Uses appropriate management techniques.
  • Communicates effectively, orally and in writing, with students, parents and other professionals on a regular, timely basis.
  • Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures as required by school board policy.
  • Works collaboratively and effectively with colleagues, administrators, other district staff and parents.
  • Leads band for grades 5-12, pep band and chorus.
  • Acts ethically and professionally in all circumstances, following federal, state and district policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with District policy and Mossyrock Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. Length of the work year and hours of employment are defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with state statute, District policy and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
