This position is 8 hours per day, 191 days including holidays, at Green Hill Academic School. A Bachelor's degree is required.

As an Educational Paraprofessional Specialist-Education Advocate at Green Hill Academic School, will work (under direct supervision) with clients who are about to leave Green Hill School and assist them in transitioning to public school, entering post-secondary training or finding employment.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Carries out the following goals of the Education Advocate grant program:
    • Ensure, where feasible, activities are coordinated with the student's home school, particularly in respect to special education;
    • Notify the local school if youths are identified as in need of special education services;
    • Provide transition assistance to help youth stay in school;
    • Provide support programs that encourage youth to re-enter school;
    • Use, to the extent possible, technology to assist in coordinating educational programs between the juvenile facility and the community school;
    • Involve parents, where feasible;
    • Work with local businesses.
  • Provides activities and services to youth that are directly related to the following federally defined program outcomes: school credits, GED program enrollment, job training courses, return to community school, post-secondary school, employment, high school diploma, and GED completion
  • Maintains records/files for the purpose of documenting activities, complying with federal/state/school system requirements and/or evaluation processes
  • Represents the school at RTM (Re-entry Team Meetings) for students
  • Collaborates with district personnel and community partners to assist students in credit retrieval and career planning activities for the purpose of supporting transition to public school, post-secondary education/training, or employment
  • Collaborates with school counselors and principal for the purpose of coordinating and monitoring the delivery of available services
  • Compiles documentation for the purpose of determining eligibility for programs and services
  • Coordinates activities with a variety of outside service agencies and school sites for the purpose of assisting students/parents of eligible students to gain access to needed services and other services
  • Develops student success plans for identified students for the purpose of supporting high school graduation, obtaining a GED, post-secondary education/training, or employment
  • Engages students in tutoring and mentoring services for the purpose of high school graduation or obtainment of a GED
  • Maintains weekly contact with students for the purpose of ensuring they (the student) are following their "Student Success Plan"
  • Monitors students' services after eligibility for the purpose of ensuring transition through a course of referral and follow-up
  • Participates in statewide Education Advocate activities as directed by the principal
  • Partner with JRA and community agencies for the purpose of developing and/or enhancing local resources to respond to unmet needs
  • Prepares a variety of materials (e.g. minutes, correspondence, forms, monthly mailings, narrative reports, work plans, transition plans, letters, memos, referrals, etc.)
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
  • Confers with teachers, JRA staff, parents and/or appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing students' objectives
  • Participates in various meetings for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one's skills/knowledge
  • Performs the essential of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Completes work at assigned workstations
  • Consistently deals with people in a courteous and professional manner
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Experience Required: Prior job-related experience working with at-risk youth, preferred.
Education Requirement: High school diploma/transcript or its recognized equivalent; Bachelor's degree required.
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing:
Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance (cost paid by applicant) and Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Form required; First Aid/CPR Certification and Hepatitis B Vaccine Series may be required.

Qualifications : SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND/OR ABILITIES REQUIRED:
SKILLS to perform basic clerical functions, perform basic arithmetic calculations, operate standard office equipment, including the use of basic computer applications, use English in verbal and Written form, use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling. Skills to communicate effectively, problem solve.
KNOWLEDGE of rules and regulations related to assigned school, statistical record keeping, and Skyward attendance programs preferred. Knowledge of principles of child development, instructional processes, problem solving methodology.
ABILITIES to sit for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of student records, fulfill schedules and meet deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies, rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity and may include lifting/carrying 25 lbs.
