FLSA DESIGNATION:
Non-Exempt; 12 months; Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM. $14.00/hour. Note: This is a grant funded, non-union, part time position with no benefits that exists as long as funding is available.

PART I - SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION

This class is accountable for performing a full range of entry-level clerical duties; participate effectively in a team environment; and assist with the various issues related to the Adult Education Program.

PART II - MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

A. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

General Experience:
  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Experience in complex clerical or secretarial work.
B. CREDENTIALS:

C. LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Incumbents in this class may be required to possess a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Class D Operator License.

D. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

E. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  1. Considerable knowledge of modern office principles and procedures.
  2. Ability to work with Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
  3. Knowledge of data base entry.
  4. Ability to develop and maintain filing systems.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Ability to type with speed and accuracy.
  7. Ability to perform tasks with little or no supervision.

PART IV - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties.
  • Answer phones, screen and direct callers;
  • Compose and process all outgoing correspondence, memos and reports;
  • Screen visitors, mail, and route to appropriate personnel;
  • Prepare purchase requests and maintain inventory control;
  • Maintain basic knowledge to enhance processing of correct correspondence and make necessary changes as required;
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the office budget;
  • Interact with the public and staff on a variety of matters, providing advice and assistance;
  • Maintain up to date department files and records;
  • Compile and assemble complex data for reports;
  • Perform other related work as required by the Adult Education Program Principal.
