GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK

Under the supervision of the Principal and his/her designee, the Mathematics Intervention Teacher plans, and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure Success for Every Student. Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and the community. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests and abilities of individuals to ensure Success for Every Student
  • Create a classroom environment that provides student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives
  • Provide an instructional program to meet the needs of all students including students with disabilities
  • Prepare, write, and implement lesson plans that provide targeted instruction that meets the needs of each individual student
  • Collaborate with Curriculum Coordinator and classroom teachers to create the intervention pullout schedule
  • Administer quarterly and ongoing assessments to determine students' progress and appropriate next steps in instruction
  • Develop a system to document and maintain data on student progress
  • Facilitate a collaborative relationship with teachers, parents, and administrators to provide regular updates on students' progress
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers on instructional strategies and tools to support student learning
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers on students' readiness to exit intervention
  • Attend and participate in planning meetings
  • Participate in parent/teacher conferences and Virginia-Tier System of Supports (VTSS) meetings
  • Contribute productively to the school as a whole
  • Attend and participate in school events outside of regular school hours
  • Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of DEKS curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, DPS policies, and effective instructional practices
  • Understanding of the teaching/learning process
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education
  • Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum
  • Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, school-based staff, students, parents, and community
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Holds or is eligible for a five-year renewable Virginia teaching license with PreK-6, 6-8, Mathematics, or related endorsement(s)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience at the elementary or middle school level, is preferred
