POSITION SUMMARY:

The Custodian is responsible for a variety of tasks including washing, mopping, scrubbing, dusting and sweeping. Maintains routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to ensure a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds for Atlanta Public Schools. This position reports to the assigned or designated supervisor.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conducts routine building inspections daily and identifies areas requiring follow-up
  action.
• Informs Maintenance Supervisor immediately
• Performs clean-up tasks on surrounding grounds and structures
• Cleans, shampoos, and/or disinfects carpets, in additon to restrooms in accordance with established procedures
• Opens and secures building; sets security alarm
• Receive and store school custodial supplies
• Dusts and polishes furniture, window ledges, and all horizontal surfaces
• Assist in setting up facilities for special events
• Move materials, equipment, and furniture as necessary
• Ensures floors are cleaned, mopped, stripped, and waxed as necessary
• Maintains equipment to ensure proper working condition, cleanliness and stores equipment
• Collects, cleans, and empties trash cans when necessary
• Stock restrooms with paper and soap and changes light bulbs and ceiling tiles
• Washes windows on lower levels and on doors, both inside and outside
• Operate autoscrubbers, buffers, and vacuums and help keep equipment in working condition
• Assist site manager or operations manager in the performance of basic building maintenance

Requirements :

Education:

• H.S. Diploma or GED required
