In 2022-23, IDEA Public Schools will serve more than 80,000 students at 145 schools across 12 regions in four states-Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Ohio. IDEA Public Schools is searching for a New Teacher Development Manager to lead work to ensure that new-to-IDEA teachers experience a culture of joyful high-performance and achieve strong results in their first year at IDEA. This individual is passionate about developing new educators and will lead organization-wide initiatives to onboard, coach, and train new teachers. They will partner with the New Hire Experience team to ensure a strong onboarding process, with the Academic Services Team to provide excellent summer and ongoing teacher training, and with campus managers to ensure effective day-to-day coaching and support. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of results as a teacher and have experience coaching or managing teachers to successful outcomes. They are data-driven and focused on user experience, gathering qualitative and quantitative data to deeply understand and to plan improvements to the work they lead.

In this role, you will:
  • Conduct empathy interviews and complete a needs assessment investigating the current experiences of first-year teachers at IDEA.
  • Using the needs assessment and research you gather about effective new teacher onboarding, develop and invest stakeholders in a shared organizational point of view about what leads to successful new teacher experiences.
  • Based on your point of view, prioritize improvements to the new teacher experience such as:
    • Improving the design and quality of best practices shared in New Teacher Institute.
    • Enhancing the quality of new teacher training for mid-year hires.
    • Offering classroom management clinics in partnership with specific campuses or regions.
    • Designing resources and reminders or 'nudges' for managers of new teachers that improve the quality of teacher onboarding at the 7-day, 30-day, 60-day, and 90-day marks.
    • Create an early-onboarding handbook introducing teaching at IDEA that managers can share with teachers as soon as they are hired.
    • Pilot a new teacher mentorship program and/or new teacher support groups to enable strengthening relationships and sharing of best practices & resources.
  • Gather and analyze ongoing qualitative and quantitative data to understand the impact of the work you lead and to identify successes and opportunities for further impact.
  • Provide regular communication to national and regional teams communicating data about new teachers' experiences and sharing resources and suggestions.

Required Experience and Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Licenses or Certifications: Teacher certification in Florida, Louisiana, Ohio, or Texas is preferred
  • Professional experience required:
    • At least 3 years of teaching pk-12 with a strong record of results
    • At least 2 years of coaching or managing teachers with a strong record of results

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time (and up to 50% in July and August) to visit and lead training for teachers across IDEA regions.


Goals:

As the Manager of New Teacher Success, you will be responsible for leading work to reach the following ambitious goals:
  • Partner with the New Hire Experience Team to ensure that onboarding benchmarks are met and 95% of new teacher hires are retained through the first 90 days on the job and 80% are retained through the first year of teaching.
  • Interview teachers and campus leaders, gather data, and prioritize improvements in programming and support leading to a 5% increase in the percentage of new teachers reaching Level 3+ on the Teacher Career Pathway by their second year at IDEA.
  • Lead and project manage New Teacher Institute in the summer for our 12 regions and plan ongoing, high-quality professional development throughout the year, in partnership with the Academic Services Team, such that 90% of new teachers report 4+/5 on training survey satisfaction.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $66,600 and $80,600, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on individual and organizational performance and goal attainment.

This role is grant-funded through September 2023.

Location:

The Manager of New Teacher Success must currently live in or be willing to relocate to Texas, with preference for one of our regions in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin, Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, or Tarrant County.
