POSITION SUMMARY:
Bridgeport Public Schools is seeking a highly motivated and inspiring Adaptive Arts Teacher (AAT) to work with students in self-contained Special Education classrooms. This position requires the ability to create adaptive art lessons tailored to meet the needs of students with disabilities. Responsibilities include planning and producing presentations of student artwork, talent, and creativity; data collection - tracking skill development as well as a collaborative approach to supporting student learning.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Demonstrate comprehensive and current knowledge of both Special Education and Art Standards.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development as it relates to the learning/teaching process.
  3. Demonstrate awareness and respect for diversity of cultural backgrounds and lifestyles.
  4. Identifies and sequences goals, objectives, strategies, and assessments, which provide for individual differences.
  5. Plans and implements the elements of an effective lesson design and develops lesson plans, which incorporate fine motor skills, and adaptive instruction aids appropriate for instruction.
  6. Provides an atmosphere where students can fulfill their potential for artistic and intellectual growth.
  7. Designs lessons that provide opportunities for problem solving, creativity, and communication skills in relation to authentic, real-world problems.
  8. Establishes and (as necessary) adjusts art instructional goals and objectives, to reflect district/school goals, curriculum policies, and the knowledge, skills, progress, and needs of one's students.
  9. Aligns assessment with instructional objectives based on formative assessment.
  10. Monitors student progress and adjusts instruction based on student questions and performance.
  11. Communicates with students both individually and collectively about their needs and progress.
  12. Maintains high expectations for student learning and behavior.
  13. Maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment by consistently implementing routines, transitions, and procedures.
  14. Demonstrates knowledge of national, state, and local standards in Special Education and Art.
  15. Proficient and consistent use and data to inform instruction.
  16. Develops and maintains systems for keeping group and individual records.


REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Connecticut teaching certification (165), (065) Comprehensive Special Education K-12 or PK-12; Master's degree preferred.
  2. Three years' successful teaching experience in an urban setting preferred.
  3. Experience in the use of educational technology and integrating arts into the classroom.
  4. Demonstrates responsibility for self-growth, professional improvement, ongoing self-reflection, or self-evaluation.
  5. Excellent oral and written communication and human relation skills.
  6. Collaborative approach to teaching - this position will require co-teaching and co-planning with Planning and Placement Team members.
