    POSITION SUMMARY:

    This assignment involves providing math instruction and support to at-risk youth. Individuals must be familiar with the Gradual Release of Responsibility Instructional Model and be able to plan lessons using the Backward by Design format. Work as a team member in professional learning communities, have experience using data driven instruction, and create class curriculum based on state standards. Provide direct instruction to small groups of students at the strategic level of intervention in order to supplement core instruction.
    Plan lessons, select materials; prepare assignments, tests, and discussion topics. Assist students with understanding and appreciating the content, encourage and provide feedback as they grow in math. The focus of this position is student growth, proficiency, and preparing students for post-secondary readiness. Encourage parent/guardian involvement in student learning through open houses, volunteering, parent/teacher conferences, etc. Develop and promote good community relations among stakeholders. May assist with translation and/or communication using second language skills when possible.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Instruction:

    Incorporate additional learning opportunities for advanced and non-proficient students. Ensure all classroom processes, procedures and data collection are highly organized and effective with optimal use of instructional time. Motivate, engage, and empower learners to track and monitor their learning.

    Collaborate with educators from other grades or subject areas to establish links between disciplines and influence school-wide curriculum and teaching practice. Demonstrate mastery of content and is able to make curriculum rigorous and relevant to all students. Deliver content that is relevant to students and applicable to the real world. Integrate and align Colorado Academic Standards, instructional objectives, instructional strategies, learning activities, materials, resources and assessments and differentiate lesson planning based on individual student needs. Use data management tools to implement district approved math interventions with small groups.

    With support, follow 6-8 week intervention cycle (location, grade, and student group my change)

    Analyze and evaluate student work.

    Provide quality, accurate, constructive, corrective, specific and timely feedback to students that encourages them to perform at their highest level. Utilize technology and/or other avenues to communicate to stakeholders (website, podcasts, etc.). Establish student, staff and parental rapport that allows for a proactive response to potential problems. Collaborate with content or grade level staff.

    Actively participate in all staff meetings, PLCs, and other required events. Apply and implement knowledge, skills and new understandings to improve instructional programming. Advocate for and lead initiatives that will enhance student success in and out of school. Use professional Code of Ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision-making in practice.

    Intervention:

    • Provide explicit and systematic instruction to improve students' specific skills, strategies, and concept development using district approved resources.
    • Assist in screening, diagnostic, and progress monitoring assessments.
    • Assist in analyzing student data to determine student profile of needs, and for making instructional placement and instructional focus decisions.
    • Collaborate and consult with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other specialists in a problem-solving approach to implement the most effective instructional plan for students.
    • Work with students of diverse backgrounds and who struggle with academic and motivation issues.
    • Develop schedules and flexible groupings of homogeneous skills based on updated student performance data
    • Prepare lesson plans and materials according to curriculum guidelines.
    • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
    • Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
    • Establish and communicate clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to students, teachers and parents.
    • Prepare, administer, assign and grade tests and assignments to evaluate student progress, reporting grades using District software.
    • Attend trainings as it related to job responsibilities.
    • Follow 6-8 week intervention cycle.

    Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

    SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Possible supervision of support personnel.
    Conduct supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to interview participation, training/development, assign and direct work, performance feedback, address complaints and resolve problems.

    BUDGET AND/OR RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Prioritize and schedule work tasks independently.
    Create and implement effective and efficient process management strategies (e.g., procedures, instructional groups, transition materials, and supplies).
    Accurately projects need for budget planning.
    Maintain accurate records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.
    Review processes for improvement opportunities and makes changes as needed to ensure the quality of instruction.

    EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

    Bachelor's degree.
    Master's degree in Mathematics (preferred).
    5 + years of teaching experience.
    Demonstrated experience teaching math.
    Demonstrated experience working with Data Teams and MTSS.
    Demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting data to identify effective interventions.
    Bilingual skills in Spanish (preferred).
    English fluency will be determined through the interview process and licensure.

    LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
    Valid Colorado Driver's License.
    Valid Colorado Teaching License with an Elementary Math endorsement.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Frequent lifting 5 (five) to 10 (ten) pounds.
    Occasional lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds.
    Frequent sitting, bending, walking, and standing.
    Occasional stooping, kneeling, squatting, and reaching.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
    Mostly clean and comfortable.
