    Role Description

    The Advanced Academics Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership in the area of Gifted students' learning and growth. The Coordinator position will include development and implementation of Gifted and Talented Programming for identified students and students identified on watch. Studying, evaluating and implementing innovative techniques and methods will be a focus of this position. The Coordinator is expected to provide leadership in the development, articulation, and implementation of an exemplary gifted and talented program and improve the program through ongoing evaluation and monitoring for program effectiveness.

    Essential Job Functions

    Administrative and Organizational Management
    • Provides coordination and expertise to ensure systematic and continuous programming in accordance with CDE gifted and talented guidelines
    • Develops and implements research based procedures for identification, selection and placement of students
    • Provides appropriate and regular reports concerning the gifted and talented programs to the Director of Student Services and Chief Academic Officer
    • Works with School Leadership in organizing and coordinating gifted education in their building in order to influence horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the gifted education program throughout the district
    • Develops an improved understanding of gifted students educational needs on the part of teachers, administrators, and parents and interprets the educational needs.
    • Consult with parents, administrators, counselors, teachers, community agencies, and other relevant individuals regarding Gifted and talented, Social and emotional needs of gifted students.
    • Prepares reports, summative evaluations and grant applications requirements
    • Plan and conduct parent meetings, including parent advisory committee meetings which consists of school personnel and parents
    • Articulate the mission, vision and goals of Adams 14 gifted education to all stakeholders.
    • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

    Development of Curriculum and Instructional Leaderships
    • Assists teachers in writing Advanced learning plans, monitors the implementation of academic and affective goals, and aids teachers in differentiating and enriching curriculum to ensure continued academic and affective growth of our gifted students.
    • Assist staff in developing specialized learning activities for students who have needs beyond the classroom curriculum with alternative work through curriculum modification and acceleration.
    • Supports teachers in specialized learning activities that include: setting up problems, experiments, projects, and activities related to student needs, interests, and capabilities as indicated
    • Conducts a Gifted and Talented Coaching Cycle that incorporates research based strategies, walk throughs, modeling instruction and providing student interventions
    • Develop and conduct staff development sessions, including sessions on delivery of instruction, enriched learning in classroom settings, and methods for identifying gifted and talented students

    Qualifications
    • Must hold a valid Colorado teaching license and be willing to obtain endorsement in gifted education
    • Working knowledge of research based ,best practices for gifted and talented students
    • Five Years Teaching Experience
    • Previous experience in teaching gifted students or/or coordination of gifted programs is preferred
    • Must have experience working with diverse student populations
    • Prefer experience in administration and instructional leadership
    • Prefer experience in planning and implementing professional learning opportunities

    Prefer bilingual proficiency in both English and Spanish
