Position Overview

The Cluster Lead provides leadership and representation for a cluster of schools with the goal of better supporting the mission of the School Nutrition program through improved program communication, expanded leadership opportunities, and increased input into the program and operational decisionmaking. Responsibilities include cluster representation, communication, and active participation in program decision-making as well as staff supervision and coordination of meal service activities at assigned locations to ensure nutritious meals are provided which prepare students for academic success.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
  • Overall management responsibility for foodservice operations at a cluster of schools and site supervision of staff members.
  • Assists in the training of all SNS managers and cashiers scheduled.
  • Assists in the auditing of foodservice operations as required by the National School Lunch Program and the Summer Food Service Program.
  • Assists in the deployment of SNS IT Hardware and the reprogramming of gun scanners and works with the staff at schools to ensure all newly installed SNS hardware is properly connected and operational prior to the start of summer school.
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of SNS-sponsored training including Back To School Training and Leadership Development Training.
  • Assists in the annual update of the Manager Handbook and Employee Expectations.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of annual Rewards and Recognition Program.
  • Assists in the development of Breakfast, Lunch, Snack and Supper cycle menus.
  • Collaborates with the Wellness Coordinator in the development of the annual program marketing plan.
  • Attends weekly meetings at the Round Hill Center.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from high school with a minimum of 3 years of quantity food service experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles
  • Demonstrated ability in leadership, communication, and program participation
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff with diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain a high performing team
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer relations skills
  • Working knowledge of quantity food preparation methods and practices
  • Knowledge of HACCP food safety procedures and practices-must possess current Serve-Safe certification
  • Ability to maintain highest level of confidentiality concerning student records
  • Demonstrates understanding of finance, and manages a financially solvent unit meeting established key performance indicators
  • In depth working knowledge of USDA regulations governing programs
  • Initiates and conducts promotions and marketing activities that engage students and help build participation
  • Working knowledge of School Nutrition technology
  • Must obtain annual continuing education hours for the position, as required by federal law
