The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Behavioral Specialist
Definition: The Behavioral Specialist will serve the school working with non-classified students on social and emotional issues. The individual will serve as part of a team responsible for establishing and providing behavioral assessments and behavioral plans, providing ongoing technical assistance, communication, collaboration, and problem solving between and among school personnel, students and families, and community.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- New Jersey Permanent School Social Worker/ School Psychologist certificate (as appropriate).
- Evidence of successful participation in a field based experience.
- Design effective behavioral intervention plans which support non-classified students achieve academic success leading to college and career readiness.
- Problems solve with student support teams regarding students with challenging behaviors.
- Collaborate with school personnel n the development of school-wide systems of positive behavioral supports.
- Demonstrate competence in the use of resources available in designing, acquiring or adapting innovative strategies for correcting problems.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships between and among school personnel, parents and community.
- Resolve immediate concerns, issues and resources related to the needs of individual or groups of students.
- Act as an onsite consultant to general and/or special education staff to plan, develop or evaluate specific techniques or behavioral management strategies for the school.
- Act as a resource to families, students and school staff to assist in the dissemination of information, referral for services and the development of program planning.
- Monitor student progress and assist with the evaluation of program outcome.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports as necessary.
- Participate in activities that promote professional growth.
- Perform additional or alternative duties which are within the scope of employment and certification as may be assigned by the Principal.

Salary, Terms & Affiliation
- Salary: $54,500 - $102,041
- Employment Period: 10 month
- Union Affiliation: Newark's Teacher Union (NTU)
