Reporting to the Director of Physical Plant, the First Line Supervisor is responsible for providing students and other building occupants with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient educational environment. The First Line Supervisor supervises group leaders and custodians in assigned building, elementary building supervisors in the assigned zone, and other temporary help as assigned.

Essential daily duties include:
  • Ensure that assigned buildings are maintained, clean, safe, and secure.
  • Provide guidance and positive reinforcement to Elementary Building Supervisors.
  • Ensure that assigned staff understand expectations - counsel as necessary. In partnership with Assistant Director and Human Resources, investigate performance concerns and communicate, warn, discipline as appropriate.
  • Coordinate staff with regard to building activities, staff shortages and emergencies.
  • Collaborate with SCASD staff and administration to impact learning environments in a positive way.
  • Maintain logs and complete inspections, request forms, reports and preventative maintenance as prescribed in the Physical Plant policy book.
  • Manage work order, budget and any other prescribed databases.
  • Review, approve and report payroll records and overtime for assigned staff.
  • Work with outside vendors on building maintenance scheduling.
  • Effectively utilize the Google and Microsoft platforms to share spreadsheets, update ordering and inventory, and track initiatives.
  • Monitor building HVAC equipment and alert maintenance staff of any deficiencies.

The First Line Supervisor must be proficient in the operation and maintenance of the following equipment, as well as be able to provide training:
  • Various scrubbers, vacuums, and cleaning equipment
  • HVAC equipment
  • Person lifts
  • Lawn and snow removal equipment
  • Various hand tools

This position requires a high school diploma, or equivalent. Five years in a supervisory capacity and three years of experience in building custodial operations is preferred. The ability to demonstrate effective communication skills and knowledge of building systems are essential. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
