    JOB FUNCTION

    Provide a stimulating, safe, and developmentally appropriate educational environment where children have the opportunity to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    This list is not all inclusive and is only intended to illustrate the various responsibilities and duties performed.
    1. Organize and provide developmentally appropriate early childhood education programs; plan and implement curriculum and education for children ranging in age from six weeks to twelve years old.

    2. Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of children.

    3. Plan and prepare classroom setting; oversee safety and educational programs; supervise children in the classroom; provide a supportive environment in which children can learn and practice appropriate and acceptable individual and group behaviors.

    4. Interact with parents and community groups; maintain open and cooperative communication with parents and families, encouraging their involvement in the program and supporting the child's family relationships.

    5. Write and compile individual assessments of each child's development; complete daily inventories, child attendance, and related reports.

    6. Participate in research programs concerned with improvements in early childhood teaching methods, as appropriate.

    7. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

    8. Attend meetings, training, and seminars as required.

    9. Continue professional development as provided by the District.

    10. Maintain regular attendance.

    11. Other duties as assigned by the Principal and Student Services Director.


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
    1. Knowledge of early childhood education programs and techniques.

    2. Knowledge of child development theory and practice.

    3. Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologies.

    4. Ability to provide activities for children that encourage healthy growth.

    5. Ability to exercise control and maintain classroom discipline.

    6. Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.

    7. Provide support to staff, parents and students in order to problem solve, maximize resources and provide instructional strategies.

    8. Knowledge and experience with diagnostic screen protocols and authentic, on going assessment.

    9. Understanding instructional strategies, accommodations and specialized instruction/interventions.

    10. Work under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods.

    11. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions.

    12. Perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.

    13. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; administering first aid; operating equipment used in a classroom setting, including a computer; using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and planning and managing projects.

    14. Analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.

    15. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: age-appropriate activities; concepts of grammar and punctuation; safety practices and procedures; and stages of child development.

    16. Gather, collate, and/or classify data.

    17. Utilizing specialized equipment, instructional materials and testing protocols;

    18. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods.

    19. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with various data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment.

    20. Problem-solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans; problem-solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem-solving with equipment is moderate.

    21. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; working with frequent interruptions; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; and working with detailed information/data.



    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor's degree in a job-related area, a valid Illinois Professional Educator License, SCG3 Early Childhood Education (Self Contained Special Education) Endorsement, and 3 years of experience in the field of Early Childhood Education are required. English as a Second Language Endorsement and Early Childhood Special Education License are preferred. Any equivalent combination of training, education, or experience that meets the minimum requirements.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The general job required 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
