The counselor fulfills the mission of Saint John School by assisting the faculty and administration in the development of a guidance program and counseling students in areas of academic, social-emotional, family and health related domains. This position reports to and is evaluated by the Principal.
Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school;
Prepares and implements the guidance program for students;
Communicates effectively and consults with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students;
Identifies specific needs of students in academic as well as personal domains;
Provides individual support and group guidance to help students cope effectively with personal, social, academic and family concerns;
Updates and maintains confidential student records including cumulative transcripts and student files.
Works collaboratively with school districts with regard to student learning plans (IEP, 504, service plans, etc).
Coordinates with faculty and staff concerning student achievement and other needs;
Collaborates with peers to enhance the work environment and support instructional planning;
Coordinates with classroom teachers regarding student learning plans and accommodations
Collaborates with classroom teacher and student's parents regarding any long term absences and any missed work associated with that absence
Collaborates with the Director of Enrollment regarding transfer students
Other duties as requested and assigned.

Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree preferred in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work;
Minimum of five years in school-based or adolescent experience;
Successful administrative experiences in an academic setting
