The filling of this position is based upon continued funding in the Board of Education budget.

Note: Teachers dually certified in TESOL, Bilingual Education or ESL, with experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English, will be given preference for all Stamford Public School positions.

General Statement:
The School Counselor understands the characteristics and needs of the adult learner and articulates the program to students. The School counselor is responsible for registration of all students in the High School Diploma Programs, transcrpt review, and general duties assoicated with a school counselor.

The School counselor I reports directly to the Head Administrator for Adult & Continuing Education.

Major Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the Head Administrator for Adult & Continuing Education, the School Counselor:
  • Overseaing and fulfilling the requirements of the Adult Education school counselor program
  • Analysing student performance and identifying areas of need
  • Helping students to develope a plan for their academic career
  • Communicating between administrators and students about acamedic development
  • Assist with school related activities
  • Review and analysis student transcripts
  • Supervises the Data Base Management System to assure that complete and appropriate information is submitted to the State Department of Education..
Hours:
  • Monday and Tuesday from 5:15 P.M.-8:15 P.M. OR
  • Wednesday and Thursday from 5:15 P.M.- 8:15 P.M.
  • Qualifications:
  • Connecticut State Department of Education Certification endorsed for:School counselor (068)
  • Experience working in an adult education program preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the CASAS Assessment and Pre-Post Tests required by the State Department of Education, preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Data Base Management System (DBMS) used in adult education programs, preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the competencies and materials used in adult education programs
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Evidence of leadership and organizational ability and willingness to pursue tasks to successful completion
  • Superior communication skills (oral and written)
  • Knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows); Office suites (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs); Presentation Software (i.e. PowerPoint, Keynote); Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel, Google Spreadsheets); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Skype); Accounting Software (i.e. QuickBooks); Student Information Systems (i.e. Naviance, Power School); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position.
