The Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) Summer BOOST program is a summer learning camp designed to offer Pittsburgh Public School students completing Kindergarten through 7th grade an opportunity to engage in exciting academic instruction and unique enrichment activities. With the goal of combating summer learning loss, Summer BOOST provides campers with academic support delivered by certified teachers and exposes them to one-of-a-kind activities facilitated by contracted enrichment partners. Summer BOOST Classroom Assistants Autisitic Support/Life Skills/Multiple Disabilities Support, work alongside a certified teacher to support campers with autism, intellectual disabilities, and/or multiple disabilities in academic classes and activity blocks.
Work Schedule
Start Date: June 27, 20222
End Date: August 2, 2022
Pre-Camp Work consist of 37.5 hours of duties which includes:
During Camp Work consists of 19 days that covers the following aspects:
Camp Dates: Monday - Friday, July 5, 2022 thru July 29, 2022
Position Hours: 7:45 a.m.- 3:15 p.m. (Please note, students are present from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.)
Post- Camp Work includes 15 hours that cover the following aspects:
Dates: Monday, August 1, 2022 & Tuesday August 2, 2022 Camp Hours: 7:45 a.m.-3:15 p.m. (Includes a 30 minute lunch daily)

Below is a breakdown of how the total compensation is allotted:
- Pre-Camp Compensation = 37.5 Hours at Paraprofessional Workshop Rate ($15/hr)
- During Camp Compensation = 19 Days at 100% Daily Rate
- Post-Camp Compensation = 15 Hours at Paraprofessional Workshop Rate ($15/hr)
Please note: If you did not hold a Classroom Assistant position at PPS during the 2021-22 school year, the Daily Rate will be based on Step 1 on the Paraprofessional Classroom Assistant Salary Schedule.
Qualifications
Candidates must be enthusiastic about the Summer BOOST Program mission and the fundamental goal of advancing student achievement in an urban public school district. In addition, we are seeking candidates with:
- Experience working with students with severe Multiple Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, and/or students with Autism.
- Knowledge of PPS policies and procedures.
- Experience and familiarity with the academic, socio-emotional, and cultural needs of urban students and have demonstrated success in working with these students and their parents.
- Value, demonstrate, and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Essential Job Functions
Responsibilities of a 2022 Summer BOOST: Classroom Assistant K-12+ include, but are not limited to:
- Work alongside a certified teacher to support campers with autism, intellectual disabilities, and/or multiple disabilities in academic classes and activity blocks.
- Assists teachers and students in various day to day tasks.
- Assist with bus pick-up and drop off, meal logistics, transitions between activities, and materials distribution.
- Assist with pre-camp site set-up and post-camp site break down.
- Maintain camp elements to reinforce the three camp rules: Have Fun, Work Hard, and Be Nice.
Additional Job Information
Staff Absence Policy:
Staff are expected to be present for their entire work schedule during the duration of the Summer BOOST program which may include Pre-Camp, During Camp, and Post Camp days/hours. Additionally, staff work schedules include but may not be limited to: planning, meetings, professional development, site set-up, site breakdown and camper days. The exact work schedule for this position is listed in the Position Summary section of this job description.
Sick Leave will be awarded to PFT represented employees between June 27, 2022 and August 2, 2022 based on Article 144, Section 6a2 and 6b of the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers (PFT) Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Any additional absences during the work schedule will be docked from the staffs pay. If any staff is absent more than 2 days, the staff may be removed from their position and will only be paid for the days worked.
