The Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) Early Intervention Summer program will serve eligible Early Intervention preschool students based on needs identified on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The summer camp locations may include: Conroy, Minadeo, Roosevelt Intermediate, Spring Garden and Sunnyside. Note: Sites are subject to change. Staff will work in a classroom setting, provide services on an itinerant basis in various preschools throughout the city, home and/or serve on an evaluation team. Staff may be assigned to a classroom and/or will be assigned as an itinerant for up to 15 days. Specific assignments will be made closer to summer.
Children will attend summer camp two weeks
1st week - July 11-15, 2022
2nd week - July 25-29, 2022
Student hours - 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. for a total of 10 days.
Work Schedule
Start Date: July 7, 2022
End Date: August 1, 2022
*Staff assigned as itinerant will work between July 7 - August 1.
*Staff assigned to classroom will work the following:
Pre-Camp Work consists of 2 days:
Thursday and Friday, July 7 and 8, 2022 (classroom set up)
Hours: 8:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m.
During Camp Work consists of up to 12 days:
Monday-Friday, July 11-15, 2022 AND
Monday-Friday, July 25-29, 2022
2 itinerant days, if needed - dates may be selected based on child availability.
Hours: 8:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m.
Post-Camp Work consists of 1 day:
Monday, August 1, 2022 (classroom clean up)
Hours: 8:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m.
Up to a total of 15 days.

Salary
Total Compensation: 70% of Daily Rate for up to 15 days Staff Hours 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Please note: If you did not hold a Speech Therapist position at PPS during the 2021-22 school year, the Daily Rate will be based on Step 1 on the Special Service Provider Salary Schedule.
Only applicants that can work all summer camp days indicated for this position should apply.
Qualifications
Candidates must be enthusiastic about the Early Intervention Summer Program mission and the fundamental goal of advancing student achievement in an urban public school district. In addition, we are seeking candidates with:
- PA Certificate in Teaching Speech to the Language Impaired, Certificate of Clinical Competency; PA Licensure or Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology is required.
- The highest priority and preference will be given to candidates who possess experience working with children having received Early Intervention services, especially in inclusive settings.
- All positions are based on enrollment and funding and are not guaranteed.

Essential Job Functions
Responsibilities of a Summer Early Intervention Speech Therapist include, but are not limited to:
- Provide Early Intervention services to eligible children per the IEP.
- Participate in Day 1 or 2 orientation training and any meetings deemed necessary throughout the summer.
- Collect and report on progress monitoring data and session notes; provide families of children in camp daily and weekly plan.
- Camp teachers will review summer curriculum materials and plan daily lesson plans for children incorporating IEP goals of children.
- Possess an understanding of state and federal Special Ed/Early Intervention regulations.
- Utilize necessary software & technology to complete required paperwork.
- Provides a safe environment for the students.
- Manage and support children with challenging behaviors.
- Provide support to community professionals, teachers, families and young children utilizing Early Intervention services.
- May conduct IEPs with families.
- Itinerant must have a valid PA drivers license and an automobile to travel between sites during the work day.
- Any other responsibilities as needed or assigned by EI administration.

Staff are expected to be present for their entire work schedule during the duration of the Summer Early Intervention program which may include Pre-Camp, During-Camp, and Post-Camp days/hours. Additionally, staff work schedules include but may not be limited to: professional development, Camp Set up/Break Down and program days. The exact work schedule for this position is listed in the Position Summary section of this job description.
