The Director of Curriculum & Instruction works closely with the Principal to provide mission leadership for faculty and students and assures the orderly functioning of the school. He or she is responsible for teaching and learning through a well-developed curriculum executed by an excellent faculty. The Director of Curriculum & Instruction is a member of the school’s academic leadership team, actively collaborating with faculty and other academic and non-academic leaders and directors as well as staff.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Coaching and Teacher Support – Advise, support, and mentor individual teachers to improve instruction through:
  • Consistent classroom observation and feedback
  • Facilitating curriculum planning and evaluate annual, unit and lesson plans
  • Promoting continuous, high-quality (formative and summative) assessment as a means for evaluating student achievement
  • Collaborates with the Principal to develop and implement effective professional development plans
  • Leads the effort to upgrade the level and quality of professionalism among teachers with regards to:
  • Classroom environment and management
  • Student/faculty relationships and behavior
  • Internal communication
  • Compliance with school policies regarding dress code and professional behavior
  • Professional relationships
  • Student/faculty relationship
  • Oversee academic support program, office hours, tutoring, academic probation
  • Assists teachers and staff with use of instructional technology in classroom lessons
  • Supports and collaborates with the Assistant Principal for Academics on select curriculum and instruction-related efforts, such as implementing cycles of data analysis, best instructional practices, grading policies, etc.
  • Manages the alignment, and implementation of CRN curriculum to enhance student achievement
  • Identifies academic program needs on an ongoing basis. Work with the principal to allocate resources appropriately
  • Collaborates with teachers, parents, and guardians to facilitate partnerships with families to further student achievement
  • In collaboration with the College Counselors, plan and implement standardized test prep curriculum for all grade-levels
  • Collaborates with Principal on all hiring, orientation, and development of academic faculty
  • Collaborates in the creation and monitoring of the annual academic calendar for all faculty and students
  • Oversees the process for teacher certification/re-certification as is required by Maryland State Department of Education and by the Archdiocese of Washington
  • AP courses oversight
  • Assume other duties/amend above responsibilities as determined by the Principal

 Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in an educational field with certification in secondary teaching or administration
  • Strong background in a rigorous, standards-based, college preparatory curriculum
  • Evidence of an ability to analyze and utilize data to increase student achievement
  • Demonstrated success as an instructional leader who creates a culture of continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, lead and work collegially with faculty and staff
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Sensitivity to working in a diverse multi-cultural environment
  • Knowledge of the Catholic faith, beliefs and practices
  • Understanding and commitment to the educational mission of the Archdiocese of Washington, the Salesians of Don Bosco, and the vision of the Cristo Rey Network
