The Woodlawn Campus of the University of Chicago Charter School (UCW) opened in September 2006. The middle school currently educates students in grades six through eight and assists students in the following:

1. Developing the habits of mind, work, and heart to be successful in college and good citizens of their community
2. Contributing to the community through student research, service, and leadership
3. Improving teaching and learning by serving as a site of professional development for teachers and school leaders
4. Upholding the 4 core values of Scholarship, Leadership, Excellence and Grit

The middle school's STEM Department is responsible for the computer science education of students in grades six through eight.

Teacher Responsibilities:

• Develop curriculum for and teach computer science classes across divisions as required
• Working collaboratively with classroom teachers and the other staff members of the middle school's STEM Department to develop and maintain a cohesive curriculum sequence from grades 6-8
• Passionate about the difference between mastery of devices and in-depth knowledge about computers and computing

Teacher Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of course subject matter required

Teacher Experience:

• At least two years of teaching experience
• At least two years of experience teaching computer science in a K-12 environment
• Background working with a wide range of students with diverse backgrounds

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, educational computing or related field required
