Harwood Union Middle/High School is seeking a Director of School Counseling for the 2022 - 2023 school year. The Director of School Counseling is responsible for the implementation of the school counseling program as well as academic advising and programming, supporting the social emotional well-being of all and post-secondary planning and advising.

  • The Director of School Counseling will:
  • Oversee the day to day support and coordination of school counselors and the registrar
  • Serve as a member of the Student Support Team and work collaboratively on the continuous improvement of our Multi-tiered System of Support
  • Facilitate Harwood’s work with VSAC and the Aspirations program 
  • Counsel students as assigned, including foreign exchange students
  • Work in collaboration with the Teaching and Learning Coordinator to ensure students and families understand the status of their high school journey and supports in adjusting graduation plans accordingly
  • Serve as the liaison to the career & technical centers 
  • Liaison with the various agencies and organizations within the school and community that may provide specialized or professional support to students and their parents, serve on appropriate advisory committees, and act as the referral agent to these agencies and organizations
  • Prepare and administer the School Counseling Department budget
  • Assist in the hiring process and training of School Counseling staff members and interns
  • Oversee counseling communication and outreach to post-secondary institutions  
  • Prepare and publish the HUHS School Profile annually
  • Prepare an annual report on ACT, PSAT & SAT
  • Oversee awards and scholarships at Harwood
  • Assist the Principals in the development of the Parent/Student Handbook and Calendar 
  • Supervise the administration of and prepare annual reports on Advanced Placement 
  • Oversee registration and scheduling procedures for all new students and their families
  • Organize and administer annual course orientation, selection, and scheduling for current students and their families
  • Coordinate the curriculum orientation, course selection, and the transition of 8th graders and their families to the high school 

The candidate must have a Master’s Degree in Education, 5 years counseling experience, 2+ years of leadership experience, a valid professional educator license and a commitment to ASCA Professional Standards and Competencies.
