    About the Opportunity
    The purpose of the ESL-Bilingual Teacher is to provide academic instruction to English Learners. You will develop and deliver lesson plans to groups and individual students utilizing academic development language standards.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    As an ESL-Billingual Teacher, your critical tasks will include:
    • Instructing English Learners for the purpose of improving their success in academics and skills
    • Developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines
    • Adapting classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans
    • Implementing LEARN's English Learners program design to fulfill the requirements of support for English learners needing academic content areas including Reading, Writing, Math, and Science
    • Obtaining training for and assists with administration of language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student language proficiency (MODEL and/or W-APT and screenings, ACCESS test)
    • Maintaining organized records of documentation regarding student achievement in core courses
    • Producing progress reports and report cards on regular and as-needed basis
    • Utilizing evidence-based instructional strategies which support language learning in core content subjects
    • Collaborating with English Learners coordinator and other staff to support students experiencing academic performance challenges related to English language learning
    • Interpreting student performance data and implements appropriate support structures
    • Communicating and conferring effectively both orally and in written form with students, parents, colleagues and administration
    • Using audiovisual aids, computers, and or other interactive technology to supplement and support lessons
    • Creating a classroom culture conductive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
    • Keeping informed of and complying with school, Network, and state regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
    • Scheduling student groups.
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    This job is a great fit if:
    • You can showProof of Proficiency in both English and Spanish (for BILINGUAL certified teachers)
    • You hold Valid Illinois ESL certification and a valid Illinois teaching certification
    • You possess a Bachelor's degree with experience working in a multicultural setting
    • You have the ability to make technically correct translations from English to Spanish and Spanish to English with speed and accuracy
    • You have knowledge of evidence-based language acquisition strategies
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

    This job is an ideal fit if:
    • You possess Illinois State Board of Education TBE certification
    • You have 3 years of experience in K-8 regular education or a bilingual classroom
    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics

    To succeed as a ESL-Billingual Teacher, you possess the following characteristics:
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (i.e., Word, Power Point, Excel, etc.), internet research and database functionality
    • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
    • Professional demeanor
    • Experience in developing and implementing procedures
    • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities and a diverse workload, while achieving results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
    • Detail oriented and highly organized
    • Ability to diffuse tense situations and get others organized to meet project expectations
    • High degree of initiative and independent judgment
    • Ability to tactfully and effectively deal with public and staff at all levels in a personable and professional manner
    • A high level of energy and a consistently positive attitude
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment. Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files. Physically demands require the ability to stand, bend, reach high and low, stoop, walk around the classroom and kneel upwards of 60% of the day. In addition walking up and down stairs several times a day, must be able to lift 15 to 20 pounds for short periods of time and push and pull 15 to 20 lbs.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Majority of work performed in a school environment. This role requires participation and attendance at school-sponsored events and meetings.
