The Opportunity

Behavior Intervention Coordinator

Lighthouse Community Charter School is looking for a Behavior Intervention Coordinator who is relentlessly committed to ensuring that traditionally underserved students achieve our mission of completing college and securing the career of choice. Lighthouse staff believe that this important mission is not only attainable; it is essential to transforming our Oakland community. The Behavior Intervention Coordinator will be an integral part of the multi-tiered systems of support team (MTSS) with a primary focus on ensuring all students receive necessary behavioral and socio-emotional supports to thrive in alignment with the Lighthouse Mission

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement behavior and social-emotional supports across all tiers with an emphasis on Tier 2 and 3
  • Assist in the development of behavior intervention plans
  • Provide support in the implementation of behavior intervention plans through coaching and modeling
  • Lead professional development for staff regarding behavior and social-emotional supports and strategies
  • Collaborate with site leaders to implement interventions, monitor the impact of the supports, and plan for adjustments
  • Collaborate with a range of stakeholders to implement the behavior intervention plan
  • Lead small groups or individual sessions with students to support the development of pro-social behaviors and increase their academic engagement
  • Support students in de-escalating and assessing coping strategies
  • Support Individual Education Plan (IEP) team with the implementation of systems to track student behavioral data and progress towards goals, as well as structures to analyze the data and make adjustments
  • Attend IEP meetings to report on social-emotional and behavioral strengths and areas for growth and make recommendations for the current IEP
  • Communicate regularly with families to ensure aligned supports for students
  • Participate in professional development and maintain knowledge of best practices in social-emotional and behavioral supports
  • Collaborate with outside agencies, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree, required
  • Master's Degree in Education, School Counseling, or Psychology, desired
  • CA Teaching Credential (Multiple Subject, Single Subject or Education Specialist) or PPS credential, required
  • 5 + years working directly with students in a school-based setting
  • 2+ years of experience leading a team in a school-based setting, preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish, desired

Time Commitment

This position is a full-time salaried exempt 12-month position that follows the 233-day school year and summer schedule. Includes approximately 5 weeks of paid holidays/breaks during the school year in addition to 10 days of vacation time during the summer.


This position reports to the Principal.
