QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Excellent communication skills
  2. Must obtain First Ade and CPR certification within 30 days of being employed
  3. Ability to work effectively with disabled students
  4. Ability to handle the behavior and health needs of the students
  5. Possess and Associate's (or higher) degree; or have completed at least two years (48 credit hours) of study at an institution of higher education or have pass the Highly Qualified Assessments
  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications
REPORTS TO:
Middle School Principal or person designated by the Board of the Superintendent

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The work requires periods of moderate to heavy physical activity and requires long periods standing and/or walking. Typically the position requires the employee to work in a classroom environment; lift and carry at least 50 pounds; lift and assist middle school students, stoop bend at waist and knees, squat, kneel, sit on floor, twist, reach, hold grasp, and turn objects; address student hygiene issues; and use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboard.

JOB GOAL:
To assist the teacher with students learning the fundamentals of reading, writing, math and living skills as specified in their IEPs by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole. To provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials. Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by teacher.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assist with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and story-telling.
  2. Assist students in the library or media center.
  3. Monitor students for safety on playground and in all inside environments
  4. Pick-up and deliver specified students to and from classes, activities and the
  5. Assist with toileting and hygiene needs of
  6. Assist with lunch, snack, and cleanup
  7. Communicate with special education and/or classroom teacher about specified students' progress and/or needs
  8. Follow recommendations from resource teacher and any other service providers
  9. Administer, score, and record such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students
  10. Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and
  11. Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional
  12. Help students' master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
  13. Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for
  14. Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field
  15. Keep bulletin board and other classroom learning displays up-to-date.
  16. Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher.
  17. Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed.
  18. Participate in in-service training programs, as required.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary: Based upon District's adopted instructional aide salary schedule. The district honors up to 7 years of experience.
Work Schedule: 173 days per year or as designated by the annual school calendar.

Hours: 7:45 am - 3:45 pm or as set by the building principal
FLSA Status: non-exempt/classified
