  • DEFINITION: The Wellbeing Specialist will work closely with the Human Resources Benefits Department to identify and target wellbeing needs throughout the District, measure effectiveness of initiatives and provide guidance to leadership on wellbeing programs.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    TASKS:
    • Responsible for the planning, design, implementation, delivery and evaluation of comprehensive wellbeing programs for Sunnyside
    • Participates in initializing the key elements of a successful wellbeing initiative, including the components of an effective and measurable wellbeing system
    • Tracks, measures, and report results of interventions, and challenges
    • Coordinates and manages the wellness committee; recruits participants, tracks participant's time/hours worked on the committee, schedules and facilitates meetings, prepares agendas, issues minutes and provides reports to the Trust Board
    • Develops and promotes activities and challenges emphasizing wellbeing and prevention and that emphasize the importance of healthy lifestyles; these activity topics will include weight management, physical activity, nutrition, hydration and stress and must include step-by-step implementation plans, program details, resources needed, goals for success, and all tools needed to successfully complete the program
    • Develops the annual tactical calendar/programming plan that is aligned with the objectives of the wellbeing program and is responsible for executing the same
    • Plans, implements, and manages appropriate interventions, programming, campaigns, competitions, and challenges that educate and engage the organization's employees in healthy behaviors and measurable change in outcomes
    • Directs and manages all activity associated with organization-wide sponsored programs but also works as requested with field contacts to design and execute wellbeing events locally
    • Directs and manages all activity associated with annual on-site screenings (to include planning, budgeting, promotion, communication, execution of individual screening events either individually or with designees) and works to improve employee participation and engagement year over year
    • Measures participation knowledge and satisfaction and facilitates changes and/or additions that reflect the changing needs of employees
    • Leverages all available tools and resources from the organization's carriers, third party administrators and other providers and sources, researches or otherwise supplies the health and wellbeing-focused information required to educate the employee population on wellbeing and ensures an integrated program delivery and management
    • Demonstrates a communication style which seeks and incorporates input from others and reflects consensus-building influence, leadership and initiative
    • Plans wellbeing fairs including speakers, health-related demonstrations, displays, and video materials provided by local agencies, insurance carriers, local/regional agencies, hospitals, and other resources
    • Engages with employees on a daily basis to promote, encourage and support healthy lifestyle behaviors
    • Is a visible and available representative of the District to its employees (examples include attending screening events, presenting lunch and learns, classes and wellbeing events, booths at District sponsored events, etc.)
    • Triages individuals to appropriate care based on their health risks, interests and information that is relevant to their condition and health status (health coaching, EAP, medical plan, disease management, maternity programs, prescription carrier, etc.)
    • Additional responsibilities as assigned


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
    Knowledge and understanding State and Federal wellness and insurance laws.
    Knowledge of District and Department policies and procedures.
    Knowledge of health, nutrition, physical activity, financial and whole-employee wellbeing practices.
    Knowledge of and skill in, project management, organization skills, analytic capabilities, articulate presentation skills, and self-motivation.
    Skill in reading and interpreting documents such as rules, instructions, and procedure manuals.
    Skill in writing routine reports and correspondence.
    Skill in effective written and oral communication.
    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
    Ability to work in a team environment as a team leader/facilitator/influencer.
    Ability to be a role model/mentor/health coach for health and wellness to others.
    Ability to create positive professional relationships.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, repetitive motion, vision to monitor and lifting up to 30 pounds.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    3 to 5 years of work experience with health promotions and wellness programs
    Demonstrated experience in creating and implementing programs that match employee needs, lifestyles, and interests
    Ability to create a strong alignment with the mission and vision of the organization, positive work culture and public education in general
    Must maintain current required licenses and certifications relevant to field of expertise
    Any equivalent combination of training, education or experience that meets the minimum qualifications

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Bachelor's Degree in a health-related area such as health education, medical, wellness, or fitness
    Experience in a public entity (municipality/public education)
    Bilingual (Spanish/English)

    Additional certifications may also be required as specified by the District.

    Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.


    Salary Grade: PNT Grade 6 $45,484 - $63,689 FTE: 1.0Days: 260 Start Date: 2021/2022 School Year
