Position Title: School-based Clinical Consultant

Payroll/Personnel Type: 10 Month

Reports to: Manager, Social Work Services

Position Summary:

The School-based Clinical Consultant is a member of the multi-disciplinary team and works under the supervision of the Manager of Social Work Services. The Clinical Consultant performs duties such as educating school personnel of the unique developmental, mental health and attachment needs of students in a trauma context and of trauma-informed strategies to support students during the school day. Reduce student attrition and prevent behaviors that would require a higher level of care by addressing the trauma and relational needs of the student to create a culture of care/empathy.

Essential Functions:
  • Conduct school, classroom, and student observations to provide recommendations for interventions
  • Facilitate one-on-one coaching and modeling and provide supportive feedback for school staff
  • Consult with school-based staff to recommend evidence-based trauma-informed interventions, practices and strategies
  • Communicate with school personnel to gain understanding of mental health and behavioral concerns in the school, home and community in addition develop a support plan
  • Coordinate and facilitate collaborative meetings with parents and school personnel
  • Strengthen and support effective trauma-informed program implementation by collaborating with internal and external entities
  • Serve as a Trauma-Informed Care and program subject matter expert when participating in all relevant meetings and advance expertise through trainings in accordance to St. Louis Public Schools policies
  • Participate in staff meetings, roundtable discussions, teleconferences, professional development, service area processes, and monthly reporting with school personnel and school administration
  • Maintain records as required by state and district requirements
  • Remain cognizant of and comply with district, state and federal laws that govern delivery of special education services
  • Attend workshops, in-services, and staff meetings
  • Perform all other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define a problem, collect data, draw a valid conclusion, develop, and execute a treatment plan to achieve progress
  • Ability to effectively express ideas orally and in writing
  • Ability to collaborate and build relationships and understand what motivates others
  • Knowledge of evidence base trauma informed practices and behavior intervention strategies
  • Driver's license and vehicle for travel among schools
  • Ability to work independently, schedule and utilize time to best serve the designated school district
  • Conduct effective training in the area of Behavior Management
  • Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques, school systems and DESE academic standards
  • Knowledge of the organization and communication channels of a school system


Experience:
  • Post-graduate experience working with children and adolescents and providing therapeutic services
  • Training or experience in trauma informed treatment


Education:
  • Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work
  • State of Missouri LCSW, LPC, or equivalent


Physical Requirements:
  • Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle
  • Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
  • Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree


Working Conditions and Environment:
  • Work is routinely performed in a typical interior/office environment
  • Very limited or no exposure to physical risk
