Our Middle School (grades 6th to 8th) is seeking an enthusiastic, full-time middle school mathematics teacher. The ideal candidate has a genuine love of Middle School students and is excited to work with all types of learners to help students see mathematics as a subject full of meaning and interconnected ideas, rather than as a class in which they memorize rules and practice routines. We seek an educator who hopes to help students develop strong mathematical intuition and excellent habits of mind for studying mathematics in a text-free environment. In addition to teaching four class sections, full-time faculty members oversee a 10-12 student advocacy group which is the core of our social and emotional learning curriculum.

 

In our hiring process, we look for teachers who:

 

  • create and develop original and engaging coursework along with a variety of assessments to evaluate student performance and progress

     

  • actively encourage multiple methodologies for solving problems, and discuss the benefits of certain strategies over others as a vehicle for becoming a more flexible mathematical thinker

     

  • promote thoughtful mathematical discourse in the classroom,

     

  • are willing to allow student interests, questions, and misconceptions to guide daily curricular decisions,

     

  • differentiate instruction for a range of student abilities and have a broad knowledge of and experience with current best practices in curriculum and instruction

     

  • participate in the development and alignment of the text-free Mathematics curriculum

     

  • demonstrate proficiency in standards based teaching, learning, and grading

     

    invest in the life of the school by actively participating in Advocacy, clubs, an extracurricular activity, grade and math department teams and faculty committees,

     

  • embody the heart of Menlo School and share our commitment to cultivating an ever more heterogeneous and inclusive community.

     

Requirements:

 

  • Educators who are dynamic, highly collaborative, and committed to professional growth in their discipline and teaching practice

     

    Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

     

    At least three to five years of teaching experience in secondary schools
