ORGANIZATION
Value Schools is a Los Angeles-based charter management organization that oversees four schools (two grades K-8 and two high schools) serving 1,600 students in and around the downtown area of Los Angeles. Since its founding in 2002 with the opening of their first elementary campus, Downtown Value School, the organization has been centered on its mission of establishing and supporting high quality, values-based elementary and secondary charter schools for populations of students who have historically been underserved by the public school system. Value Schools has a strong track record of proving that demographics do not determine destiny. 96% of Value Schools students graduate high school (a rate more than 20% higher than the local district). 98% of graduates attend college, with 73% attending 4-year colleges and universities including Stanford, USC, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Brown, and MIT. Nearly all Value Schools graduates are the first in their families to attend college.
Value Schools recently finished constructing a $16.5 million purpose built K-8 facility next to the existing high school. Opening in the 2022-23 school year, this building will allow Value Schools to increase enrollment to help even more students benefit from a values based education.

OPPORTUNITY
Value Schools is seeking a seasoned manager and visionary leader with a passion for the organization’s mission and values-based approach to guide Value Schools in its next chapter. The CEO will set the cultural tone for the organization and is primarily responsible for managing and supporting school and central office leaders in setting and meeting high standards for quality and accountability across Value Schools. This person will help Value Schools create further proof points, such as the class of 2021’s 96% college acceptance rate, demonstrating that the five Values that bond all stakeholders together are essential elements to ensuring students’ academic, career, and life success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure Value Schools is delivering on its mission and upholding its Core Values, keeping students at the center of all decision making and advancing the vision for high-quality academic programming, operational excellence, financial sustainability, and strong compliance functions;
- Inspire students, faculty, families, and other partners to be their best selves every day by modeling Value Schools’ Core Values;
- Set clear metrics for success across the organization with a strong focus on goals, accountability, and results;
- Continuously identify opportunities for cross-organizational collaboration between schools and the CMO, ensuring both have clarity in responsibilities and the resources needed for successful partnership;
- Effectively balance the tension between individual school needs with the need for coherence across all Value Schools;
- Manage and coach school leaders and CMO senior leaders, including the four Principals, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief of Operations and Compliance (COC), and EVP of Advancement & Partnerships;
- Spearhead and implement effective talent management strategies throughout the organization providing guidance and support around best practices for developing staff to ensure Value Schools promotes a culture of professional growth and high achievement;
- Engage the Board collaboratively and productively, promoting rigorous discussion to solve key challenges in support of Value Schools’ mission.
- QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of leadership experience in a high performing K-12 school organization or nonprofit, preferably serving socioeconomically disadvantaged students; track record of achieving significant measurable results within context of experience;
- Demonstrated commitment to the Value Schools mission and vision of establishing and supporting high quality, values-based elementary and secondary charter schools for populations of students who have been historically underserved by the public school system;
- Inspiring manager with a track record of being an exceptional talent developer and people manager, including experience managing other managers;
- Experience working or managing in a multi-site organization, knowledgeable about best practices around building cohesive systems, culture, and community across an organization;
- Demonstrated success managing strategic planning and vision setting, operations, and financial systems; ability to focus on big picture priorities while not losing sight of the details;
- A self-reflective leader who understands the effects of race, class, ethnicity, income, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, and other issues of difference in society and is able to lead direct conversations about them;
- Exceptional written, oral, and visual communications skills;
- Experience partnering effectively with a board of directors.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position offers a salary range of $185,000-240,000 and full benefits including health, dental, vision, and the option to enroll in a 401k match. More details can be provided upon request.
