    POSITION SUMMARY

    Instruct students in the specific area of specialty; help students learn subject matter and skills that will broaden their learning experiences and contribute to their development in order to meet high expectations; communicate with parents; create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning; participate in professional learning.

    The P-TECH 9-14 education model, which began in 2010, has grown from one school in Brooklyn, New York, into a global network of 220 schools and 650 companies. More than 150,000 students are in the pipeline in two dozen countries. The model integrates high school, college and career readiness training with curricula mapped to industry needs. Academically rigorous and economically transformative, P-TECH schools prepare young women and men for 21st -century careers. Students benefit from mentoring and paid internships with partners such as IBM, graduate debt-free with a high school diploma and a community college degree, and are first in line for new collar jobs with partner companies.

    P-TECH teachers are deeply involved in the operations of the school. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, advising, mentoring, and program development. Teachers who meet the college's criteria for adjunct faculty may have the opportunity to teach in the college program located on the high school campus. As such, teachers with prior college teaching experience and a master's degree in the content area are strongly encouraged to apply. ?

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Follows the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Norwalk Board of Education
    • Sets and reinforces clear expectations and routines
    • Manages the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment
    • Prepares lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, uses appropriate techniques, and serves the needs of all learners in the classroom
    • Demonstrates strong content knowledge
    • Maintains accurate and complete records as required
    • Conducts parent/teacher conferences
    • Assesses student learning on continual basis and identify areas of intervention if needed
    • Keeps parents up-to-date of student progress through use of interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences
    • Designs instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as needed
    • Designs and implements assessments that measure progress and use assessments to refine curriculum and instructional practices
    • Designs clear and specific learning assessments
    • Maintains a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner
    • Maintains a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior
    • Maintains ongoing communication with parents
    • Assists in the selection of textbooks, equipment and other education materials
    • Establishes and maintains professional relationships
    • Participates in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievement
    • Demonstrates knowledge of teaching methods, materials and educational practices for secondary school teaching

    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
    • Experience with team teaching in a multicultural environment
    • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
    • Effective, active listening skills
    • Ability to work effectively with others
    • Organizational and problem-solving skills
    • Great communication skills and successful in working with multiple staff


    QUALIFICIATIONS
    • Active 010 CDE certification in Business 7-12 required
    • Bachelor's degree
    • High School teaching experience
    • Fluency in Spanish preferred
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Norwalk Board of Education may find appropriate
