SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
The job of Interpreter for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing was established to facilitate communication between persons who are deaf and/or hard of hearing and others using sign language to convey teacher instruction and intent and assisting students with daily activities. They also provide voice to sign, sign to voice oral transliterate support; participate as a team member to plan, review and share information; and serve as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with hard of hearing and deaf persons.
SUPERVISED BY: Executive Director of Exceptional Student Services and Director of Special Education
ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:
- Collaborate and work with education team in assessing deaf/hard of hearing students and in incorporating the results into the IEP.
- Ensure the inclusion of deaf/hard of hearing students in the IEP program placement, and adapt, implement, monitor, and provide feedback about educational programs.
- Maintain records and coordinate required services for deaf/hard of hearing students
- Support Educational Interpreters.
- Utilize technology to model, teach, and assist students.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree: Educational Interpreter
- Colorado Department of Education licensure for Special Education Specialist: Deaf & Hard of Hearing
- Proficient in ASL
SPECIFIC SKILLS RECOMMENDED:
- Ability to communicate effectively with students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Knowledge of adaptive equipment and assistive technology used with students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Understand the IEP process
- Knowledge of Rti Process
- Knowledge of progress monitoring tools and techniques
- Demonstrated ability to provide evaluation results clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Demonstrated communication skills (both written and oral)
