The Opportunity

As our upcoming school year 2022-23 will our second year in existence as a Montessori-based pre-K program, we are looking for individuals who are excited by and comfortable with being part of this new chapter in HVA history.

Harlem Village Academies is a community of educators working to build an urban school district based on the ideals and tenets of progressive education. HVA is the lab school for the Progressive Education Institute. The Assistant Pre-K Teacher will be a part of a founding team that will open the HVA Pre-K for its very first school year in August 2021.

The Assistant Pre-K Teacher will be responsible for partnering with the Lead Pre-K Teacher to ensure the students' emotional and intellectual development within a nurturing classroom environment. They will be experienced assistant teachers familiar with the Montessori approach and have strong experience nurturing the growth of pre-kindergarten students. Alongside a team of dedicated educators and leaders, the ideal candidate will work tirelessly to build a collaborative, respectful classroom community that values student empowerment. Salary range for this position is $45,000 - $57,000 and is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Final salary may be adjusted based on experience and qualifications. Responsibilities

• Support Montessori practices and lesson plans centered around students' developing social, intellectual, and emotional skills
• Promote student independence, intellectual curiosity and intrinsic motivation
• Establish and uphold classroom routines to ensure a focused, safe and caring environment
• Get to know each child extremely well to identify individual student interests and needs
• Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and ensure student mastery of standards

Qualifications

• Assistant Teacher Certification required (must be certified within 3 months of employment)
• At least two years of teaching experience in Pre-K is preferred
• Experience teaching in a Montessori school, preferably in an urban setting
• Passion for building a strong relationship with each individual child
• Demonstrated ability to create a positive, organized, student centered classroom culture
• A strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement
• Unshakeable conviction that all students can learn at a high level
