    Position
    Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the classroom teacher will inspire students and facilitate their growth in both academic and SEL skills through the implementation of district approved curriculum; address specific educational needs of individual students, create a flexible and safe learning environment for all children, provide feedback to students, families and administration regarding student expectations, goals, etc; and document and report student progress.

    Essential Functions

    • Promotes a positive classroom environment that is safe and conducive to the individualized growth of all students.
    • Develops and administers elementary curriculum consistent with school district goals and supports a Competency-Based approach to learning.
    • Develops cohesive, engaging lesson plans and uses instructional materials that meet students' educational needs.
    • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and, based on those assessments, modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with varying learning styles.
    • Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the school system.
    • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and stays current with the developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional learning opportunities, or by conducting research.
    • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, assessing and reporting student progress and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
    • Encourages family involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and families.
    • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere for all students in the classroom.
    • Collaborates with other elementary professional staff members to evaluate and assess the effectiveness of curriculum and instructional practices based on data and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
    • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional supplies and other equipment needed to implement engaging and robust learning experiences based on best practices in education.
    • Provides supervision to students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including recess, lunchroom and activities involving school transportation.
    • Administers standardized tests and other assessments in accordance with local, district and state testing protocols.

    Additional Duties
    Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Knowledge of competency-based education as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning needs and styles.
    • Knowledge of elementary school SEL curriculum and concepts.
    • Knowledge of data analysis and the formulation of action plans to improve student learning.
    • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
    • Ability to utilize technology as an integral part of teaching and student learning.
    • Ability to organize, plan and implement cohesive units of study with identified learning objectives and outcomes.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with students and families.
    • Ability to engage in self-evaluation and reflection with regard to performance and professional growth.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others and engage in community building relationships to enhance student learning.

    Qualifications Profile
    Certification/License:
    • New Hampshire Certification in Elementary Education K-6
    Education
    • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
    • Masters Degree in related area preferred.
    Experience
    Successful prior teaching experience preferred.
