11 Month Teacher

Castlemont High School's Community Health Equity Academy focuses on Six Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) and how access to them can have an impact on long-term health outcomes. Ideally, over the course of four years, students will explore and understand public and community health in the following ways:

  • 9th Grade - Intro to Public Health - Focus on the health and well-being of Self
  • 10th Grade - Public Health Solutions - Deeply explore each SDoH individually, and how they impact School and Local Community
  • 11th Grade - Public Health Advocacy - Begin looking at the interaction/correlation of the SDoHs, and learn to take action in and with the Community
  • 12th Grade - Senior Seminar and Pathway Capstone - Research and action-oriented project aligned with pathway

This course is the introduction to the CHEA pathway, so it will introduce the SDOHs and help students get a general understanding of public and community health. While students get a general overview, in this class, they will dive deep into personal health and wellness as they learn about ways to combat the negative impact of external social determinants.

CHEA Frameworks - theoretical models and frameworks that teachers use to teach pathway concepts. The socioecological model is used as an analysis tool to think deeply about impact at different levels.

Our vision is that all OUSD students will find joy in their academic experience while graduating with the skills to ensure they are caring, competent, fully-informed, critical thinkers who are prepared for college, career, and community success.

Our Strategic Plan

The four key initiatives of our current district wide strategic plan are:

  • Your work is most effective in collaboration with colleagues, families, and students;
  • Developing as an anti-racist educator requires investing time in self-reflection, listening and incorporating feedback from students, their families, other educators, and school leaders and is critical to your growth as an educator and leader.
  • Working for racial justice requires close attention to educational systems and policies, and working to eliminate racism is critical to the educational success of all students.
