Primary Purpose:

The Systems Administrator is responsible for Installing and configuring software, hardware, monitoring system performance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring security and efficiency of IT infrastructure. Administer Email systems, GPO’s, IT security, Active directory, End Point management, threat and vulnerability management.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree preferred, preferably in Computer Science or related field.
Certifications: At least one IT certification (Microsoft MCP, MCSA, or MCSE, Cisco CCNA, or VMware VCP or related) preferred.
May consider equivalent combinations of degree, certifications and experience.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Expertise in GPO, Email Security solution, AD, O365 including setup and maintenance of email systems, VMWare, SCCM, GSuite
  • Experience with End-Point Management, Remote Access, Network Management Systems, patching,

Multifactor Authentication and Logging & Monitoring Security solutions

  • Expertise in anti-virus software, intrusion detection, firewalls and content filtering
  • Knowledge of managing information security principles, policies, including risk assessment and management, threat and vulnerability management, incident response and identity and access management
  • Working knowledge of virtualization, VMWare
  • Knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategy and plans
  • Knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols
  • Knowledge of network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and associated network protocols and concepts.
  • Knowledge of current systems, software, protocols, and standards including TCP/IP and network administration/protocols
  • In-depth knowledge of operating systems and security applications, as well as a working knowledge of basic network protocols and tools.
  • Ability to design and build a disaster recovery process for Windows Server and active directory infrastructure

Experience:

Minimum 5 years IT experience, including at least 3 years in System Administration

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Maintain essential IT operations, including email systems, security tools, applications, servers, laptops, desktops, software, and hardware and operating systems

2. Administer GPO, Email Security solution, AD, O365 including setup and maintenance of email systems,
VMWare, SCCM, & GSuite

3. End-Point Management, Remote Access, Network Management Systems, patching, Multifactor
Authentication and Logging & Monitoring Security solutions

4. Complete integration with security aspects of all IT systems

5. Recommend, schedule and apply patches, remove or otherwise mitigate known control weaknesses

6. Perform installation and configuration management of Identity and Access Management systems.

7. Manage information security principles, policies, including risk assessment and management, threat and vulnerability management, incident response and identity and access management

8. Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, servers, and virtualization

9. Administer anti-virus software, and content filtering

10. Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues

11. Work with Network administrator to provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure

12. Perform or delegate regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures

13. Ensure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions

14. Responsible for capacity, storage planning, and database performance & maintenance

15. Implement solutions to safeguard computer files/systems/software/networks/ servers against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure and to meet emergency data processing needs.

16. Locate and fix security problems and failures.

17. Adjust to changing environments and ensure tools, controls, and monitoring are in place.

18. Investigate reports of phishing, counterfeit websites, social media impersonation, scams and other abuses, utilizing brand protection services where applicable to remediate. Implement measures to prevent them.

19. Implement effective and reasonable policies and practices to secure protected and sensitive data and ensure information security and compliance with relevant legislation, legal interpretation and regulatory changes affecting K-12 education.

20. Oversee data encryption and other security products and procedures.

21. Create trainings and awareness programs and advise operating units at all levels on security issues, best practices, vulnerabilities, security standards and policies.

22. Installs and maintains the approved district Internet Web Filtering solution.

23. Ensure that disaster recovery and business continuity plans are in place and tested.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

As assigned by CIO. May have supervisory responsibilities.
