Agricultural Education Instructor 1.0 FTE



JOB GOAL:

The agricultural education instructor is employed by White Pass School District to teach agricultural education and woodshop courses offered by and approved by the White Pass School District Career and Technology Education and the State Department of Education. The agricultural education instructor is to assist and supervise all students in developing a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE), will serve as one of the advisors for the White Pass FFA chapter, and will promote and support FFA activities as an integral part of the agricultural education experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate, Career and Technical Education Certificate; Agriculture or Industrial Arts endorsement required or ability to obtain a certificate and enroll/attend required CTE certification college program. Strong Background/Experience in Agriculture with knowledge and experiences in additional Agriculture-related course subjects. Knowledge and background in FFA Leadership Activities. Valid Washington driver's license, and proof of insurance. Ability to secure necessary training/permit to drive students.

  • Valid Washington State Teacher Certificate preferred.
  • Valid Washington State CTE Teacher Certificate or
    • ability to complete CTE certification within two years of hire.
    • 6000 hours work experience in Agriculture-related industries (Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources career cluster).
  • Minimum 3 years successful experience in Agriculture or a related industry or teaching in an Agriculture-related field.
Responsibilities:

Provide teacher designed instruction in science, technology, engineering, and art using nature trails within walking distance of school and Mill Pond, art projects, plays performed by students, and simple science experiments.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Responsible for teaching middle to high school students at White Pass School District.
2. Responsible for participating in the development of curriculum process with an emphasis on integrated curriculum and alignment of course competencies within CTE Frameworks and Common Core.
3. Collaborate with all staff to develop and implement a vertical pathway plan.
4. Work with post-secondary institutions to develop articulation agreements.
5. Identify and support the attainment of valid, relevant Industry Recognized Credentials appropriate to the Agriculture, Industrial Arts, & Natural Resources career cluster or industry.
6. Incorporate new and emerging technology into the instructional process.
7. Participate in development of the student High School and Beyond Plan.
8. Ability to build and foster partnerships within the community.
9. Attend all advisory committee meetings (minimum 3 / year).
10. Develop relationships with area business and industry for membership in either the White Pass or the ESD 113 Advisory committee.
11. Supervise and support student work-based learning opportunities as possible.
12. Ability to be a team player by establishing and maintaining cooperative professional relationships within the CTE Department, high school, and district.
13. Attend and participate in CTE Professional Learning Communities (PLC) and other related PLC's.
14. Support and attend CTE activities.
15. Endeavour to implement and maintain equivalency competencies within the program.
16. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
17. Ability to be innovative and committed to the challenge of change in education.
18. Assist in ongoing professional development to maintain a current working knowledge relevant to their field.
19. Ability to be committed to success for all White Pass students.
20. Believe cultural diversity is a strength, demonstrate the attitude that we will meet the needs of any child who enters our school.
21. Ability to be flexible and cooperative in schedule changes and accommodating in other needs.
22. Implement Section 504 and ADA in the education of students with disabilities.
23. Adhere to all district safety practices for staff and students including COVID related protocols.
24. Support and demonstrate commitment to the mission, vision, core principles and policies of the White Pass School District.
25. Other duties as assigned.

1. Ability to work closely with White Pass administration and staff towards school culture, engagement, and collaboration projects.
2. Ability to obtain a Type II Drivers Certification.
3. Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR/AED certification.
4. Experience working and supervising students in a classroom setting.
5. Ability to develop and promote Career and Technical Education programs.
6. Desire to work with middle school through senior level students in developing their knowledge and skill to be employed in Agriculture, or to continue to post-secondary education/training, or military enlistment.
7. Evidence of training or experience using technology and real-world applications to enhance teaching and learning related to the Agriculture, Industrial Arts, & Natural Resources career cluster.
8. Ability to align curriculum with the state essential learning requirements.
9. A team player who works cooperatively within the school context and organization.
10. Ability to motivate and instruct students of all ability levels with emphasis on equity and providing for individual learning styles-basic levels and extensions beyond basics.
11. Ability to provide leadership and guidance to the student leadership requirements of the program (FFA) through the Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO).
12. Demonstrated success in maintaining a safe, positive, productive learning environment within the classroom and school as well as with parents and colleagues.
