Who We Are

New Visions for Public Schools is an established 30 year partner to New York City public schools, who has continuously worked alongside key leaders to improve the quality of K-12 education in New York City. In the last 5+ years, New Visions has expanded digitally, building modern tools that empower leaders within schools and key influencers across the school system.

Our core product (Portal by New Visions) is a web-based, enterprise school management application, used by educators within schools and across the school system. The application consolidates essential student data into a modern web interface, surfacing key indicators related to student progress. It highlights critical areas where attention is needed on the student level, and contextualizes that information across a school or network of schools.

The Role

We are looking for a talented Senior Product Manager who will work closely with a passionate, welcoming group of engineers, designers, data scientists, and stakeholders, who can bring the cross-functional effort together from start to finish.

This is an exciting opportunity to have an impact on a mission-driven organization, founded in equity, with ambitious goals to influence a long-established industry. In this role, you will join the product team to help evangelize product-driven best practices across the organization and participate in solving complex problems for a scaling enterprise application.

Who You Are
  • You are skilled at facilitating conversations to accomplish your goals
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and can communicate complex and nuanced concepts to audiences with varied technical backgrounds

  • You've led user research initiatives for large, complex projects and have experience using both qualitative and quantitative data to inform product decisions
  • You've led solution discovery for large, complex projects and understand how to create simple user interfaces
  • You can clearly communicate the rationale behind your decisions and can influence the decision making of others through persuasion
  • You are a tenacious leader, and can motivate a team to keep initiatives moving forward despite challenges and roadblocks
  • You are highly organized and pay close attention to the details, but also have a strong aptitude for big-picture thinking
  • You are self-driven and thrive in a fast-paced environment where multitasking is key
  • You are excited about public service and the prospect of solving problems that are challenging and affect urban schools everywhere

What You'll Do
  • Deeply understand our programmatic work with schools in your product area; identify user and business problems and opportunities across a wide range of inputs
  • Fully own and implement the product strategy in your product area that clearly prioritizes the highest impact work, and align senior stakeholders towards that vision
  • Manage competing priorities with consistency and transparency, collaborating with teams throughout the organization to ensure feature adoption and success
  • Conduct user research to surface and distill complex user needs into tangible problems to solve; define and frame those problems for the team
  • Collaborate with designers, data analysts, and engineers in solution discovery, testing and validating assumptions through constant iteration
  • Manage the entire software development life cycle using agile software development methodologies
  • Evangelize a product-driven process across a long-established organization that is undergoing a digital transformation

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, education; or training in a technology or business related field
  • 4+ years of experience in product management at technology driven organizations with enterprise products
  • Agile product management experience, including knowledge of one or more methodologies (particularly SCRUM or Kanban)
  • Great product managers can come from a variety of backgrounds, and New Visions is open-minded to relevant experience and education

Nice to Have
  • Experience with product metrics and KPIs, using various quantitative and qualitative ways to unearth product opportunities and validate ideas
  • Experience using tools to manage software delivery, roadmapping, whiteboarding, and data analytics (Jira, Product Board, Miro, Airtable, Google Sheets, Google Analytics, Kibana, etc.)
